Hope all r well... Wondering if anyone is into speed runs? ... Just hit PB with Tt02b Dual Ridge... 102kph (64mph) 😁

What electronics?

Impressive speed. :)

I haven't anything to match that but these are my best speeds over the last year (using a little SkyRc GPS speedo unit)

43mph with my 30yr old Thundershot (terra scorcher spec) fitted with a brushed 13T Dyna Run Super Touring motor, 9.6v battery and Novak Super Rooster ESC (Schumacher tyres on 2.2" wheels)

42mph with my Avante2001 (carbon chassis) with same motor but with a 2S LiPo (HW 1060 ESC)  (Schumacher tyres on 2.2" wheels)

Haven't done a GPS run with my new Cougar yet but that is also fitted with a Dyna Run Super Touring motor and has better gearing options and is only 2WD so I'm expecting that to hit close to 50mph with my new HV 2S LiPo. (HW 1060 ESC)

Still good speeds for buggies... Sure u would deffo hit 50+ with a 3s...the difficulty is control 😬... Need big space, flat, no kerbs... I have removed gear cover on tt02b and added a modified gear stay from fibrelyte, this allows me to fit bigger size pinions... I think if I put in a 29 turn pinion I will hit 70mph... That's the goal and I think the limit for a tt02b... Nose was lifting at 60+😬

Yes, I do my speed runs on our local rec ground car park. It is quite old rough tarmac but is about 50 feet wide and 500+ feet long, although the last 100 foot or so is heavily mossed up due to being in shade of tall tress etc.

It is good fun doing the speed tests although we normally run much lower gearing for actual use as the tall gearing used for the speed runs normally results in the motors overheating and/or the ESC's cutting out if used for more than a few minutes. For example the Thundershot was running 17t pinion for its speed test but I normally run 14t pinion for racing. The Avante2001 was running a 23t pinion (I think) but I normally run a 19t for general bashing/racing with the kids.

All those buggies were speed tested running yellow compound full pin spike tyres. Since then we've bought loads of Schumacher silver compound (super sticky) carpet tyres which actually grip really well on our tarmac so I suspect we may get a very slight improvement in speed if I re-ran the tests on the new carpet tyres.

Unlike the Thundershot and Avante2001, the Cougar has different spur options which means I can get very tall gearing for a quick high speed test. Sadly weather is awful at the moment, either snow, cold rain or icy conditions so not suitable for doing any speed runs.

And yes, I admire anybody that can control these cars at speeds above 40mph, and certainly at 60+mph. Blimey, I thought 40+mph was fast enough. Thankfully my buggies track arrow straight at speed and their suspension soaks up the bumps so they maintain that arrow straight line even over 0.5" steps in tarmac or concrete and even over the odd bit of gravel or twig! :)

Totally agree... Big pinions and hot motors r only for speed runs when space and weather permits... For fun and bashing I prefer a good old brushed, super stock with about a 19t pinion on a 2s or nihm pack... Then u have total control and can enjoy the buggy.... And yeas 40mph does seem quick... Over 60 is insane 😂

I think special mention must got to my King Blackfoot, while being one of the slowest of all my speed tests, it managed 32mph on a 14T motor, 8.4v NiCd and 20yr old Ripmax ESC. Trying to keep a King Blackfoot in a straight line at 30+mph is not easy.........

Wow, and keeping all wheels on ground 👍👍👍... I've got a vintage blackfoot from when I was 8..completely refurbished.. All original, and I speed tested it at 17mph...that felt fast enough 😂

Yeah, it has a tendency to wheelie like crazy under power and then swing off line so you have to feed the power in gradually...... we entered it into Round 2 of the postal racing and it managed to sheer an upright which then resulted in me ploughing into a concrete curb at maybe 25mph (instead of turning at a marker)..... the bang was impressive as was the level of damage. The thing is however still running albeit entire front end held together with tie-wraps....

I'll speed test the Cougar once the weather improves. I need to order a new spur as the kit spur is designed for lower gearing options. I'm currently running a 9.64 FDR which is great for bashing and postal racing but I can go up to a 5.61 FDR for speed runs if I get the 71t spur instead of the stock 80t.

I love my Dyna Run Super Touring Motors, the Cougar has a brand new one fitted too which is performing great and I can generally get about 15-20mins run time from a 4400 LiPo. So I still haven't switched to brushless. For the expense of switching a dozen buggies to brushless I can buy a few new buggies! The Dyna Runs are 33K rpm motors so not exactly slouches hence not as noticeable difference to the cheaper brushless setups?

Cool they will handle power no probs.. Even on 3s..

One of my favs is my manta ray, even with a total stock set up it can handle so much power.. Never tried a TF but know its from manta family.

Still aiming for 50mph at 1/14th scale.v0yL9NE.jpg

You're going to need a faster dog!!

It’s doable. Probably on 3s lipo power.
that shell looks aerodynamic enough for it .

Aside:
think I can get a Midnight pumpkin to 50kmph/30mph?

Yeah should easily be able to get a MP to 30mph.... I'd wack in an ezrun max 10 brushless combo on 2s...

Really impressive stats from dyna run.. Tbh not heard much about them, but seem like they would out perform a modern superstock, for speed?
