Hey,

Anyone know anything about Tamiya coloured tyres?  When were these made, are they just yellow and red? Which styles were they made in,  how rare are these and more importantly to me, did they ever make PIN SPIKE REARs in yellow?

I'm just looking to tweak a build so i'm trying to hunt down a pair of 50271 PIN SPIKE REAR TYRE (Avente type) in Yellow.  I have the narrow fronts in yellow and i'm just looking for a wide pair of rear, its for a Vanquish build.

However, i cant any info on coloured tamiya tyres.  I have found the odd image of coloured grasshopper tyres or coloured LTD edition tyres in Hornet kits but not the super grippers?

Any info would be much appreciated, as i feel im hunting down hens teeth?

(PS I also have Yellow Super Gripper Oval Block narrows too, some someone must know something? Just in case you're wondering where i got these sets from, I purchased them new during the 9TZ)

Sadly I threw away literally dozens of these (in both spike and also the combination oval block/spike) a few months ago. I used them on my Thundershots way back in the early 2000's for bashing. They had all gone really hard and cracked (despite being kept in the dark in a box in my attic).

They date back to the 80's I believe and when new would have been an alternative compound to the more usual black kit spec tyres for Hotshots and Vanquish etc. They gripped really well in muddy wet grass. We used to use them down at Clumber park for Tamiya club meetings in 2003-2007.

I think the wider rears were always oval block and spike. I don't remember ever seeing wide rears with just spikes in yellow.

You can see the white and yellow tyres in this old picture here:

However, compared to todays super soft compounds from the ;likes of Schumacher, the Tamiya compounds were more like HARD, VERY HARD OR DAMNED HARD....... :D

I’ve Been searching for these tires the last year and are a bit puzzeled by the 49010/49011 pin spike front (red). Why the same tire on two different product Numbers? at tamiyabase one of the productnumbers are blanked out.

has anyone got pictures or own the 49011 and 49016 red spikes tires?

hope for answer.

best
