i've not looked at snitz forums site yet but can we have Avatars??

and maybe a spell checker

as for pointing in the right direction i think i might have some thing to help you and maybe others out there on my site

Hi Shen,

'A Shade Below's forums are run by vbulletin, which can;t be used here for three reasons. Firstly they charge for the use of thier software, secondly the license doesn't allow me to change the code as I can do with snitz and finally it runs of PHP and mySQL which I don't have intstalled on my servers.

Spell checking is a nice idea, but i don't think its going to happen any time soon (you'll just have to practice your spelling off line

Hi i'm only a member of A Shade Below and was not asking to change to VBulletin i added a link to my page as it has lots of links to helpful sites for HTML,PHP,Java script,counters ect. and other web relaited stuff i just thought it might have some links that might help

an avatar it a picture you pick to have under your user name in posts so you could for example have your favorite car under your name

a bit like the smiles of robys board with the diffrent cars

most avatar picture size's are 68x68 so the picture Qly would have to be good

if this is a bad idea thats ok i just thought i'd ask

Hey, I almost wanted to open a topic about icons (I thought this was what these 'avatar' things were called...)

Would be a great idea, if possible

I think the main advantage off an avatar is that it's fun and it gives something personal to the forum... About the practical aspects, a certain picture is much easier to rember than a name (at least it works for me... ) But for the rest it's totaly useless I think...

A spell checker might not be a good idea, because it doesn't recognise some technical terms (something like pinion gear?), and you've just got to learn how to write I think...

Again about the avatars, it's shouldn't be too much trouble for you Chris because I think you've got lots of other more important stuff to do for now. Still a nice idea of ShenUK anyway...

On my list of 1 to 100 things to do - AVATARS are about 97th, just above :

98. Fill site with aimless animations to slow things down

99. introduce some unstable java applets just for creating pointless raindrop effect on all photos

100. Create an o so funny bit of text to follow the cursor around the screen.

In other words its not going to be coming soon. Sorry. I come from an old fasion school of design, which is... simple. PArticularly with Forums - the main requirement is to get people to the information they want as quickly as possible. Anything you do to distract them from that or slow them down is a bad thing.

Tell you what, we have over 300 members if you can get half of them to register thier wish for avatars here I may move it up the list (to about 93)

Avatars? Seems slightly out of place for this type of club in my opinion. Instead of perhaps Avatars one could have a picture next to ones name for example spice ( ) that would be much more suitable and feasible I think.

No problem with the Spell checker i'll just keep using MS Office for that

Avatars no rush as i said it's not for everyone and i know you want to keep the site simple so it loads Quicker
