Well, while not quite custom colors per say, I always try to add a little special to my models when possible. On the surface, they look normal until under UV light.

My latest Thunder Dragon is prepainted, but still I added a little of my "usual touch" to it.

These are two different Optimas the first one I built (the one sitting on the box) way back when it was originally re released but stupidly I sold it and instantly regretted it although I did buy a second hand avante with the money I got for it! but I then I got a fantastic deal on the second one and decided to do a homage to my first one because I just loved the colour combination!

Hi, can anybody advise me on replicating this Ford colour.

Ford Neuveo Red (metallic)

Looks like magenta (flat) but when the sun hits it its really shiny and the metallic shows through.

Pic here is in the sun.

I've got plenty off touch up pens and aerosol cans in the correct colour but its no good for polycarbonate shells....shame as it will just crack and peel off.

Cheers anyway.

Translucent red PS37 backed with bright metallic gun metal PS63 then white PS1 obviously just make sure each colour is evenly covering the body you don't want any of the individual colours showing through!

Can you remember how many coats of the ps37 you did??

Be my first time using translucent spray so don't want to mess it up....

Any other pics of the shell??

Looks like ill be getting some ps63 as yours looks redder/deeper

So I've ordered ps37 ps48 & ps5 but now I've seen the effect of ps63 over the Translucent Red (ps37) I'm thinking of ordering a ps63 to darken the red down a notch as it looks a good match, not as bright.... but would backing it off with the black (ps5) make it darker again??  Ill try some with white (ps1) to compare as suggested.

The paints going to cost more than the shell 🤣🤣

both shells are painted using automotive paint  the first is deep impact ford blue that i got mixed by a supplyers and the second was mixed by specialist paint the same that edd from wheeler dealers used on the ford pop they did and they have not chip'ed or cracked if you think that then try what you have on a scrap piece;)

Really, thats interesting. I was always lead to believe automotive paint didn't adhere to the inside of the polycarbonate shells.

i did a test with some Auto paint, I found it stuck fine but as soon as a bent the test bottles I tested it on it began to crack, for a shelf queen it probably will be fine, if it’s being run then from my experience I’d say not.

This will be a static model, there was a escort cosworth for sale on ebay a while back that was replica of a monte carlo.

The jewel ultra violet was bang on, unfortunately never got a reply when i asked if it was polycarbonate paint or automotive spray.

@Qed296

If it’s a static model then it probably will be ok, my understanding is the auto paint doesn’t flex well so when it gets bashed it will crack, if it’s sitting on a shelf then it should be ok and maybe easier to get the correct colour in auto paint.

As I am discovering with the restoration of my brother-in-law's full-size Mini, there are many different kinds of automotive paints with different chemical compositions, adhesion properties, flex characteristics, etc.

I would be very surprised if it was not the case that some automotive paints stick very well polycarbonate, while others flake off almost immediately. It would be a case of experimenting to find the right kind of automotive paint for your purposes. I would perhaps start my search with those formulated for use on bumpers and other plastic mouldings?

Problem is most paints are meant to be on top of a primer coat, which has the best adhesion, something that is not possible on a clear shell. If you want to go primer route, and paint on the outside, then it will be a different situation.
