Manual Page download timeouts!!!

is it just me, or is anyone else having difficulties downloading pages form the manuals section. for some reason when ever I try the download allways times out before its finished downloading the full image.

I know Ive had a really crappy connection recently thanks mostly to my ISP (freeserve) but even if your downloading at 56K or 9.6K it shouldent make any difference, and the whole image should download before it says "Done"

Ive already spoken to chris about this problem, but he cant seem to see what my dificulty is, cos his page downloads are all 100%

I just wanted to know if anyone else has had similar dificuties, so I could perhaps share my knowlage of the situation with them and maybe come to a better understanding of how best to solve the problem

To try and solve this what I need to know is.

Is it any particular manuals?

Is any particular pages?

Any particular resolutions?

Any particular time of day?

Any particular days of week?

etc etc.

If several of you are having problems and can answer these questions I might be able to build up a picture of what is happening.

OK this problem seems to effect me on all manuals, all pages, Print or High resolution images mostly and sometimes on screen or medium res pages, any time, any day.

Not 100% sure what i'm on about here, but cant users extend their 'time out' time on their pc settings if they have slower connections? I'm sure i've seen it somewhere?

You can adjust those settings in the network configuraton of windows, but there exist also programs which optimize your connection settings, check http://www.tucows.com/accel95.html

I sometimes get the same problem - even on my 128 ISDN line. All I do then is hit reload and the page reloads completely the second time.

I have the same problem on my 56k dialup. I just guessed that it was something to do with the way the manuals are hidden from web-spiders, that the server program which delivers the manual pages is timing out.
