Before I go a head and buy it, is the F04 pro ii a good start? And when it comes to putting on body's do they all fit?

Well, my mate loves the one I built for him, and judging by how much of a challenge it is to beat him nowadays, it is a solid performer. Rugged too - whereas his previous F1 came home with me for repairs after most meets, I haven't had to do anything to this one apart from replacing a blown ESC, and that isn't the car's fault.

Here is the build thread that I did on it:

As for bodies, as long as you fit the appropriate wing set, or even just the right front wing, most can be trimmed to fit the majority of modern F1 chassis.

That will do for me. Going to order it right now. I'm really looking forward to this build, going to set it up for smooth concrete because there is a new multi storey car park in the town that has concrete floors.

Also would I be better getting a low profile servo for it and what size motor will be okay?

It can take standard or low profile servos. I would go for a low profile one personally for a lower CoG.

If you want to race it at club level, most clubs follow the 21.5t standard. If not, pretty much any 540 size motor will fit.

Has anyone used the carbon effect protector skins on the under side of a f103 chassis? As mine will be static when finished it shouldn't effect performance.

I've got a good selection but all are showing battle scars.

Just want to tart it up abit.....

Good idea, I think I might just order some 3m carbon fibre effect film. I was going to hydro dip one and see what happens.....done a few off my cossie.

Wow! Was out for a bit and came back and lots of really nice entries and posts. So the thread is still alive! Can't seem to keep up with liking everyone's cool post, from F1xxs to Group Cs and advice/setups/experiences. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to do anything on my end so nothing to post for now. Just been accumulating parts.

One thing I wanted to share is my desire for a 787B kit at some point. Always love the exhaust sound.

Seeing your cars, they are very nice and here and there some rare parts.

just had a insight on Tamiya. Its nothing like this feeling... you can bash and race Tamiyas but there is no feeling like... taking a perfect conditioned shelfer and take it on a sunday out for a run. Trying not to damage it and bring it home in same condition.

I only have one shelfer and its one of the best responsible feeling in this hobby so far. :D  feels almost like FOS at Goodwood.

@TurnipJF

Fair play for using a shelf queen but I really couldn't do it😳

I wanted a nib to build, but at £450 I've had to give up the dream. :(

However, I've managed to cobble together a decent one now, it's still a truly stunning car, even in used runner state.

I've added light buckets today.

Looking good! A few weeks back I saw a NIB 878B from a Japanese seller on fleabay and would've cost about £345 (buy it now). I wasn't ready to go for it and of course it's gone now.

Yeah they pop up now and again, and on fb, 350 is double what it cost new, very expensive but one of the very few kits that justify it. It's lovely.

Been messing around today.

Stripped the "F102 basket case edition" then rebuilt it as a Group C with a spare chassis to see if it works, it does, kind of, but the F1 wheels are too small to fill the arches.

Screenshot_20210130_143455.thumb.jpg.c3a2341f3f14298e7fe115de3bfae927.jpg

Then I took it apart again and rebuilt it as F1.

Great how the chassis are interchangeable. Screenshot_20210130_182357.thumb.jpg.3b59c5c221763c502fd032887090537d.jpg

Tyres are shot, missing a few bits, is it worth restoring? a quick search on ebay has shown bodies are few and far between :(

Nope, not worth restoring at all, not in the slightest. In fact, lest you feel tempted to embark on such a fruitless task, it might be best to send the carcass my way, just so it doesn't waste your workshop space, you know? 😁

Haha, in all seriousness I've seen tyres (which it desperately needs) but no F1 body shells, do they exist?

Ones specifically for the F102 are very rare, but they come up on eBay every now and then. However many aftermarket F103 shells fit, and they are plentiful by comparison.

I would put something like this on it, at least until a proper Tamiya one could be found.

Of course! You can never have too many F103s!

That's pretty cool, bit like an indycar, where do I find something like that?
