The Tamiya F1 Thread

Recommended Posts

A chap in our region has a cracking red ecos, I prefer the original look....mine had been through halfords and a true 90s car....if you have rallye news mine had a 2 page write up June 2020 (self submitted but still nice to see your own car in a magazine).

White sapphires, built 2 replicas way back when parts were cheap and plentiful. Nice looking cars.

Today my new Mon-tech wing arrived:

Installed on my hopped up F103, it certainly looks better than the race worn TRG one it replaces.

That looks good.....

While researching my Williams I've seen some good looking rear diffusers...I think Ive got a flat type polycarbonate one but fancy a more realistic one....any ideas where to get one ?

Made a few adjustments to my new Mon-tech wing, lowering it a bit and moving it closer to the chassis.

I am quite impressed with it - the plastic is flexible enough to absorb impacts but not too rubbery or floppy. The moulding is clean with minimal flash. It has three height options and two downforce settings, and comes with a set of spacers that can be fitted or omitted to change the distance between wing and chassis. And it only cost a tenner delivered!

Hi all, my F102 and soon to be rebuilt group C are both missing steering rods

Screenshot_20210205_163751.thumb.jpg.d2dc519e19035d9356847bf807dadd0c.jpg

Wheres the best place to get some replacements or maybe a modern equivalent steering upgrade?

Tamico or rc mart or ebay. You want to look for the tamiya F103 turn buckle set.

or make some DIY, you need a 3mm threaded rod and some ball ends

I've only got a downloaded manual for the F102, but it's showing 39mm/58mmScreenshot_20210205_172853.thumb.jpg.1a36fae12ed44433639190a6b726135b.jpg

Are most aftermarket F1 rear wings compatible with Tamiya F1s? And any ideas if there are rear interchangeable wings from different brands?

I've seen a aftermarket one while looking for a rear lower diffuser.

I think it was called a serpent, black plastic looked like a tamiya 2 hole fittment from memory.....

Yes, the vast majority are compatible. It is much like with 1/10 F1 wheel fitment - there are some exceptions, but the vast majority use 14mm hex rear and bearing-in-wheel front.

Thanks! I've been on a lookout for some interesting rear wings but don't need to install it anytime soon, will use it for a rebuild. But, I do have to buy it because lately stock has been low on almost just anything.

Paints arrived today, been waiting for it for a few weeks when realised I'd not checked out and it was sat in basket....weekend will hopefully be clear so i can tackle the shell.
