Top force evo!!! Thunder dragon !!! 2021

Recommended Posts

What an exciting year for new and re-releases! Tamiya is going to be getting all of my fun money this year. TF Evo, both Escorts, 1/48 F-4, Comical Hotshot, Opel, Black Grasshopper 2, CC-02 Mog (took 'em long enough to release it with a good body), track set...

Wow.

Wow, $600 for that TopF Evo, ill pass, thats more expensive than Avante XD. Waiting for Fire/ Thunder Dragon !

Where are you seeing $600 USD?  Tony's just put up his pre-order and it was 385 pounds. That's about $520 USD.  Keep in mind if Tower gets one their coupons will really help.  Like today there is a $95 off $445 coupon that would lessen the blow of the evo.  I'm personally more interested in the egress.  I have a manta ray and top force which hasn't even been run yet.  If I were to get a TFE I'd sell the top force first.  But the Egress is a chassis I've never built. So I want to check that out.

£385? Thats good, since £450 was getting floated about.

Is the Egress going to be £450 then?

Tamico has it on preorder for 310,92 euro, so I couldn't resist. Not that I particularly wanted to resist, but still.

I haven't seen anything from the Egress yet.  Tony's didn't list it in his latest FB post with pre-order prices.  I would think the Egress should be cheaper than the TFE?  But who knows these days.

So the Top-Force Evo also comes with a pre-cut and painted body. I am not sure I like this trend, part of the hobby is body work too.

HOWEVER: Applying decals to some cars (looking at you, Lancia Delta Integrale!) it a total nightmare, so if they're going to continue this trend, then I'd wish they'd do the decals too :D

Actually, how about one complete body, and one clear (un-cut, un-painted) in the box, like the Brat did?

Hopefully they'll release some unpainted bodies and decals as well. Though I think they said they'd do just that for the re-re Vanquish and so far I haven't been able to find one.

And you're absolutely right, painting can be fun, applying decals can be about as fun as a death march.

Ugh, could Towerhobbies hurry up and get some of these up for pre-order already.

Seriously.  Tamiya USA doesn't even have them up yet.  I don't think they are available until May anyway.

Evo RRP is £450 🙈🙈

Fusion Hobbies has it at £389, free delivery, so for full TC subscribers who get a 10% discount, that’s £350, with 28th May expected delivery. Egress is up at £449, so just over £400 delivered with discount.

ModelsportUK have them on their site, I 'bought' one yesterday for £460 although the expected delivery date is currently set at June 1st...

Yeah there's no titanium screws by the looks of things. Also missing the grey rod-ends & tyres the same as standard Top Force, to add to the decal changes.

Yep, just going by that press release photo, the turnbuckles are different to the original as well, they just look to be the black ones that came with the re-re carbon chassis set, shocks are attached with screws on the a-arms instead of ball connectors and the springs are different. The blurb does say it comes with the aluminium ball diffs which is good if true as they are probably the hardest original evo part to find and it also says you have the option of fitting the front 1-way idle gear so that is also included. To be nit-picky, the upper chassis deck has different writing on it to both the original evo, and the re-re set and the whole chassis set appears to be the shiney carbon version, were as the the original had matte carbon upper and lower decks and the shock towers were actually still just frp.

It's basically going to just be a re-re top force with all the existing re-re hopups included in the box +evo decals/wheels and (apparently) the ali ball diffs, not that it's a bad thing, but it's definitely not exactly the same as the original evo, still for the price I would probably still buy one if I hadn't already built an evo spec re-re a couple of years ago.

I think if I was in the market for a top force evo, I would rather spend a bit more and go for the egress. One of my favourite buggies! I have pre ordered the Thunder Dragon though. Can't wait!! I hope it gets fulfilled and doesn't come battered

Painting and detailing a body is probably the favourite thing to do for me! I have never got bored of fed up with doing the body but I have got bored with building the chassis and fed up of building gearboxes in the past! And don't get me started on turnbuckles and putting the microscopic ball bearing in the ball diffs even the VW t2 wheelie body never tried my patience but the cat xls chassis successfully tried my patience!

And the decals on the Optima was just a breeze that didn't need a single badword, right? :D I on the other hand was ready to watch the world burn after struggling with them and still having them end up looking like the work of a toddler on a sugar high.

In other news it's great to get some info as to what the apparent differences are between the original and the re-re, having never owned one or seen one in the flesh I'm clueless to these changes. Much appreciated!

To be fair. That's all the original Evo was.  Just a top force with all hop ups wasn't it?

Yeah the optima didn't look like a straight forward mission? I just painted my one by hand (spray paint) because I remember thinking nah I'll give that a wide birth! I did carefully cut the blue out from the decals because it was a nice shade!

That's stunning! Only upside is that I'm definetely not scared to run mine, as it can't possibly get any worse. One of the most enjoyable builds ever up to the decals though, fully on par with the Egress and the Avante.

have you checked the site since you payed that price. And the original evo was basically a hop-up version of the top-force so why should the re-re be any different to the original versions;)

I have the TFE on pre order. My hopes are for blisters and for the box to say Evolution instead of the abbreviated EVO.  After taking some time to hunt down new original wheels, tires and stickers(decals) as well buying a top force and carbon fiber chassis, damper set, I appreciate this release.

I wonder if Tamiya will have titanium screws as a hop up as they did with the Avante. If they do I will buy that as well.

I don't think it will come with the Evolution name on the box art unfortunately. It looks like they have had some kind of licencing issue with the Evolution name, hence the decal changes.
