This segment of R/C has been growing quite steadily here in the states. I picked this up recently to see what all the excitement is about.

I think some marketing genius came up with a DR10 to get rid of all their B5 inventory as a few things are interchangeable.  The motor that comes with RTR is pretty tame.  Even with 3s I can hardly get the front wheels in the air.  I’m not planning on competing so I’m going to put some ludicrously fast.

The stock body really isn’t my taste. I picked up a Proline ‘78 Malibu Classic which I like much better.

It's kind of funny to see all the combinations of parts and the evolution of products.  We've almost come full circle:  buggies (shorter wheelbase, shorter arms) --> stadium trucks (shorter wheelbase, wider arms) --> short course trucks (longer wheelbase, wider arms) --> dragsters (longer wheelbase, shorter arms) --> soon we'll be back to buggies or some other body on a buggy chassis...

Nice shell!

A lot of folks seem to be treating this like a new segment when its been around in the background for decades. Anybody remember Fine Design Fire Foxes or the awesome rails from the 80's? Its nice to not need a dedicated course or track and competition is easy as rounding up a few buddies. From what I heard, its harder than it looks. I worry racers will take the segment too far and run it into the ground. It must be going somewhere for Associated to get involved though. They seem to have a more "wait and see" attitude (although using up some B5 parts doesn't hurt).

That Malibu body looks great @Shodog nice job.  Since it looks like the DR10 shares parts with other Associated vehicles, do you think there's any way to widen the stance easily?  I bought the JConcepts Grand National body and want to build a car for it, but the DR10 looks so narrow under some of these bodies.  I know rulebooks state that the tires must be covered by the body, but I'd like to see the wheel wells filled out a bit more.  Especially for the GN body, the pictures I've seen just make it look plain bad with the body hanging about an inch over the tires all around.

I guess I could just do a Slash which would be wider, but would be much easier just to buy the DR10 kit and be done with it.  I guess wheel wideners would work as well, but with running a 4.5-5.5t motor they might not be such a great idea...

Received my Marton Brothers wheels today. They are much lighter that I thought they would be. Popped them apart and polished the barrels. Painted the centers with Tamiya translucent orange paint which gives them a cool anodized look.

87lc2 This Malibu body is a bit wider than the stock body that’s why the wheels are so tucked in.

Wheels looks awesome!  The Malibu body looks great on there, but the GN body is even wider and looks goofy on the DR10, but good on a Slash.  I think I'll still go with the DR10 and just find a way to widen the track.

Was finally able to find a set of front tires. My LHS has been out for a couple of weeks. Got the rears all assembled. Car looks beautiful with the wheels.
