I have been trying to update details of my Mini Cooper Racing. I have managed to add 2 images, making four all together. But I can't add anymore - the progress bar goes up all the way, and then the webpage refreshes and I get a page can not be found error.

I don't think I've gone over the 5mb upload limit, is there a problem somewhere.

The car page is here: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=2401&id=278

I've just tried on another model with 4 images already, and I can't add another image to that either. I was able to add an image to my profile page though?

Any ideas?

I run into this too. My solution is to only upload 1 image at a time. I'm on dialup. Even then, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries.

I've looked at a lot of showrooms today, I only saw a maximum of 4 images per car. So it looks like currently there a limit of 4, even though when you edit your cars details it lets you choose 6?

Has anyone got more than 4 images for one of their cars?

Suspect these are all page timeout problems. Reduce the size of your pictures and try again. If you have a latest 4.0 megapixel camera, well & good, but we don't really need all that resolution and the resultant 4MB bitmap. icon_smile_blackeye.gif

I'll try again. I did reduce the dimensions to 800x600, set the compression to 65, the file size is around 120k. I was able to replace old images with the new files that I was trying to upload.

When I have problems, the progress bar always goes all the way up, and at the point where your main browser window returns to your cars page in viewing mode, it goes wrong.

I'm not saying there isn't a problem, but I've recently uploaded 5 or 6 images of my WW and I just noticed Twinset managed quite a few too

I think the problem is going to be something to do with either the speed/reliability of your connection and/or the traffic on the server at any particular time.

If you are still having problems please time your next uploads and let me know how long they take.

Cheers

I don't know how many times I need to say this guys but you are just wasting your time and bandwidth uploading images greater than 1024 x768 and less than 75% compression.

All that happens is you upload your big image with no compression which takes ages and as soon as the system get it, it resizes it down (if needed) to the above spec.

Uploading bigger pictures just slows things down for everyone.

Sorry bout that, it was the only way I could upload 5mb in less than 6 pix.

I did delete them again, was just trying to see if it was a 'filesize' problem - apologies

Sorry guys this has me completely stumped. It is not a problem I have been able to replicate and by the fact we have getting on for 5500 photo now online I can only assume its OK for the majority of members.

In which case it can only be something to do with individual machine set ups. This could be anything. ISP, modem, quality of service, whether you have third party upload/download to help(?) transfer of files software installed (like mozilla), virus software, etc. etc. etc.

No progress has been made at all. All I can suggest is what has been said before...

1. Make sure your images are JPG's

2. Make sure they are 1024 x 768 or less

3. Make sure you compress them to about 70%

4. Make a note of the individual and total of file sizes being uploaded

5. Time how long the upload process takes.

If possible try logging in and uploading from different machines, to try and wrok out whether it is location dependent.

is there any pattern in your filenames - that you can spot? Are the very long or have dodgy characters in them - try naming them things like pic1.jpg, pic2.jpg etc.

Try and do all these things systematically, ie changing one thing at a time and testing again and let me know the results.

I tried 2 nights ago to upload an image via dialup. Image size was 187K. It failed about 5 times in a row. Last night, the exact same image uploaded the first try. I then tried to upload a second file which was 197K. It took a few tries before it went. I did not time these attempts, but the upload time was in the 2 minute range.

I'm on 56K dialup. Maybe I had a better connection last night than the night before. Or maybe the tamiyaclub server was a little less busy last night. I'm not sure. I'm getting an HTTP 500 (server error) return code from my browser.

Either my web browser is timing out (although I doubt it, as I've uploaded much larger files other times), or a server script which controls the upload is timing out.

I'll keep better track of the times when I do my next image. This has nothing to do with the file names.

My images are JPG, and slightly larger than 1024x768, no idea about compression.

Probably coincidence, but I noticed that things went better if I did NOT specify a caption.

Once you have filled in all the info in your add new item screen oe edit, take a screen shot and send it to me, if it fails to upload including and timings/filesize notes you may have taken.

Also send me the EXACT copy as you have typed it in all the boxes.

The actual timeout in the script is 40mins so its not that

Chris, I've just sent you an email, but now I've tried a different approach, I added a new car and included the 6 images I wanted on the first update.

It worked first time.

I have not any problems loading pictures into the showroom. I have a fast connection here at work. What I have had problems with is trying to replace pictures. I keep getting and error. some of the pictures will replce but others won't. In the end it is easier to add a new car and then delete your old listing.

Yo, Chris

We've been chatting about this problem too, if you remember. I tried different approaches already.

Use navigator instead of IE6 - doesn't work, tamiyaclub site doesn't work with the nav, sigh... , so I did not try any of my Unix machines. My main PC has a german win2k - no picture changes possible, no addition to existing showroom cars possible, new uploads - no problem. So I tried with my german Win98-Notebook - same problem.
