New guy saying whats up

Recommended Posts

Just joined the forum and wanted to say whats up to everyone.  Posted up a few pics in the build section of my TT-02 just finished last week.

Seems I'm not alone in being a mid 40s guy trying to relive that RC nostalgia from the 80s huh :D

My first Tamiya was a Frog back in 85 or 86. Didn't have it long though cause some fool stole it from me.  Then hooked up an RC10L in 88. I F'in loved that car and as I was a big fan of IMSA and Nascar at the time it was perfect fit.

Fast forward 32 years and now I'm semi retired with extra time on my hands and getting back into RC again. Started out with a Traxxas Bandit and its been a fun car. Added some mods and painted a new shell. But really wanted an on road car and just happened to see a TT-02 for **** good price at Horizon hobby so snatched it up quick. Have to say I'm fully stoked on these TT-02 cars. Going to get a TT-02R as my next one but as most of you know Tamiya kits are like unobtainium right now. Hoping that changes soon. Fully hooked back into this honeypot of a hobby and I love it!

Here's a pic of my Bandit btw. Late.

Welcome new guy!

You are definitely not alone; you will find a huge contingent of mid-40s members that are up to their necks in this hobby, me included. Just be careful to mind the slippery slope of "gotta get one more" and you should be fine. I came back into RC about 15 months ago, with the initial plan of getting an onroad car, an offroad buggy, and a monster truck (Lunchbox/Midnight Pumpkin type).

Now, 1 monster truck, 4 buggies, and 7 onroad cars, and 2 rally cars later, I'm trying to decide if I should preorder the Top Force Evo or hold off for the Egress rerelease

I fell right down the rabbit hole.

Again, welcome!

Same boat - 45 years old - first RC Car -> 85 Black Foot, wanted a Grasshopper but got a pro car from a friend off my father that was a pro driver (he also built B-F)that i could not handle or fix (do not know what type off RC Buggy and gone now). As my mother/father where separated and my father was seldom present thst was that.

Picked the Hobby up again 1 year ago and learning it all from building to Battery/Charging, Pinion as i go, when starting at scratch there is a lot to learn.

My kits in build order:

The Grasshopper-Top-Force-Agrios TXT-2

Welcome😊
And to try to picture it all with few words. That Tamiya Catalouge did replace my Porn magazines under the pillow back in 85

Welcome. :)

Within 12 months you will own 20 RC cars. It's best that you accept this fact, immediately. ;)

I'm in my mid 50's, my addiction to Tamiya (or RC in general) started when I was 11 so be warned.... The addiction doesn't go away.... It just waxes and wanes as other things come and go that take away from your RC budget such as house, wife, kids and classic cars. :)

Thanks for the welcome guys. Yes I have to try and control the urge to get too ahead of myself when thinking about buying more kits. Most likely just 1 or 2 more on road kits and a re-issue buggy. Would really like to get an Egress when they come out.

Call me crazy but I have this kit on alert when it comes back in stock -

Not crazy at all. I would love an F1 car but have nowhere locally to run it. Our garden has no smooth flat areas and even the local car parks are full of twigs, gravel and stones so we stick to buggies.

The Egress is a superb buggy. However if you do get one I would seriously recommend the yeah racing alloy hub upgrade because the stock plastic hubs are extremely fragile. All five of our Avante class buggies (2x Avante2001, 2x Egress and a Vanquish) have now had that upgrade and they are now a pleasure to use.

@Willsls1 Thats F1 history. I almost bought it several times even if i have no place to run it close by, so thats the main reason i do not have a F1 based kit.

Hi new unnamed guy!!! 😊

57 (and refuse to say "late 50's"!!)😜. I was in the high end of the Hobby in the 80's and 90's. Raced Semi-Pro for Team Associated and OFNA Buggies.

My hiatus was a bit shorter... 1994-2008. BACK with a vengeance, and am happy and proud to be amongst such a distinguished group of reckless Car-Crazy Fools!!! 😂😅

Welcome back to the hobby .
My story is a lot like yours. Never had a Tamiya back in the day, my dad was a Kyosho guy.
When I got “back” into RC in my 40s it was with a RTR Traxxas as well.
This past year I decided I wanted to merge my love of building and static models with my RC hobby and dive into some builds.
I built an MX-5 Miata on a M06 chassis and the super awesomely fun King Yellow Bus ( for my wife even though I think I have more wheel time with it than her)

This forum is helpful and friendly and should Be a great source of knowledge for your builds.

Frog, Hornet, The Grasshopper, Subaru Brat, Black Foot is more printed into my mind than anything else after hours and hours watching them in the shelfs (and catalouge) as a kid. When started this hobby again now in Mid 40s i had to have The Grasshopper like i imagined it as a kid, its painted in Pearl white and Pearl clear finish over decals. Everytime i see it i get a great childhood flashback :) (I actually got a Blackfoot as a kid but always had a thing for the Look of The Grasshopper), didnt care then or now its status as the absolute bugded beginner Rc Car it looks Amazing!

Edit: My first RC Car when back in hobby mid 40’s
