The M - Chassis TOPIC

To change between the wheelbases your use the same parts. You rotate the pieces 180° And flip arms, and use different mount holes on rear chassis. If you pay close attention to manual, you will see what I’m talking about.

Those pictures are of the 239mm version that Busdriver is building. Top one is earlier on in the build and bottom one at the end of the build and neither seem to show the part he is pointing out.

Thank you that’s the point I’m making. All the fixing points are correct and as @Raman36 has pointed out you have to turn everything around to do the long chassis. Well they are. This bit of moulding is not on any picture or other chassis I’ve seen. The bit I’m talking about, for clarity, is the part that the metal pointer is sitting on with the square holes in it?? Doesn’t really matter as I’ve got to take the whole thing apart again as I just found the motor mount on the floor!!!!

If that is the case, it is the rare occasion where Tamiya's instructions do not match the product. Usually they are quite good.

The sticky outy bits at the back of the chassis were added when the M-05R came out, as they are there to give the droop screws something to press against. They have been included on all non-R versions since then too, although the pictures in the manual haven't been updated to show them. Since they serve no purpose on a non-R M-05, some people trim them off to fit shells with short rear overhangs.

I thought I was going mad. Thank you. I’ll leave them for the GR Yaris but if I do a mini with the same chassis I’ll get Dr Dremel out

Indeed, but as @Badcrumble has said above it seems to be the case!!

The new M05Ra kits include the A parts from the version 2. I've forgotten but I think it isn't in the manual but I think a supplementary paper came with it? The square blocks at the back are for if you add V2 or carbon arms, then you can use droop screws.

That explains why I do not have them, mine is a old stock 2010 Ra.

Sorry to hear that, Tamiya must have decided to do a running change. From memory both V1 and V2 A parts were in my Renault kit.

My original M05 (V1) I only change to the V2 chassis so I could rice it up with the Tamiya v2 motor mount plate and DF-03 heatsinks...

It's that blue hop-up drug addiction, I tell ya 😬

M07 question

I've been looking at the the Yeah Racing turnbuckle kit as I don't think the stock setup provided on the M07R is adjustable enough.

Does anyone have a list of the bits required to do this with pure Tamiya parts for turnbuckles and ball ends (and studs if required...)

After a bit of fiddling around I have managed to set up my current M chassis cars with at least their drive shafts in the right place even if the motors are wrong!!!

so right to left we have Mini Cooper Countryman M05 fwd,Ford Escort M06 rwd, GR Yaris MFX-01 4wd, Suzuki Jimny MFX-01 4wd. So S, L,L,M chassis lengths. I have an M07 on order from @Fusion-Hobbies so will build that M/225mm fwd.

Mini will be French blue with full woodwork stickers permitting!!!

The quality and texture of tarmac can vary quite a bit from track to track, and different clubs run different rule sets which allow, disallow or mandate certain tyres. The best thing to do therefore is to go along to the club and find out what the experienced racers are using, then get yourself a set of those.

What club will you be racing at - much easier to help knowing that, your looking at around £20 - £30 for a set of 4 preglued wheels/tyres of the type you'd typically use at a race day / club night so pays to get the right type: https://www.rccarshop.co.uk/1-10-mini-1-12-mtc-wheels-tyres?take=46

Still much cheaper than sourcing genuine Tamiya M-Chassis wheels and tyres though!

I've got a M-Chassis related question (or three).

I'm keen to get some wheels for my MF01x Rally. Can I confirm that all M chassis wheels are same size and  all 12 hex, regardless if made for 2WD or 4WD. I assume, as I don't see front and rear wheels they must be interchangeable?

My second question is does anyone know the model number for the wheels used on the beetle rally please? I'd been keen to get some similar wheels for my next project, but I can't find any online, and can only find spoked wheels which are less appealing to me. The 11 spoke racing wheels will be my next choice otherwise.

and finally, did Tamiya ever release a wider M chassis wheel? Ideally looking for something more like 28 mm wide. Probably not a problem if not.

Just had a look at their website and they only list 17.5 frontie and 17.5 touring classes with open tyre rules - looks like they are active on Facebook though so posting there for a recommendation would probably get you a response quite quickly

The wheels for MF01X depend on the kit, some of the kits come with touring car sized wheels and others come with M-Chassis sized wheels. Any M chassis wheels will fit as far as I know!

Edit: Part number for the beetle wheels: https://tamiyabase.com/parts/1356

Sorry, I should have clarified, it was the MF01x beetle rally that I was looking at. They have M-chassis sized wheels. I really like the style of the wheel that was in my kits, but I've not seen another like them for sale! However at least I know any M-wheel will work, so that will be my next option.
