Funny cars I would say... I am a big fan myself but really slow at growing the collection.

So far I have 3 of them.

There are some interesting bodies out there, but I dont really see them... mostly Mini's a few Abarth 1000TCRs and beetles etc...

are these for example rare-er?

Nissan SIlvia S15 M06 84267

Fiat Asseto Corsa 58444

Honda S2000 58236

Suzuki Wagon RR 58236

Honda S-MX Low Down 49084

I really like to collect more and more of these, my second RC car was a M03 RACING COOPER in 99.

How many do you M chassis enthusiasts have ? I count 3 M05ver2, M05RA and M02... I would like to see some older ones rather then new M07s and 08s but they are all welcome. post pictures if possible.

I don't have anything older than the '03 in my fleet, but I do have some non- standard ones. This one for example is a wide-track off-road Fiat 500 inspired by an online rendering I found:

I like the M-chassis size, but I don't have exclusively Tamiya M:

  • M05 Mini Cooper:  Rebuilt this with M05V2 chassis halves to accept hardcase LiPos, put a fast brushless system in it, added a Protoform body for fast runs.
  • 3Racing TT01 M-chassis conversion:  Started as a TT01R Type E, then converted it to a shaft-drive 4WD M chassis using a 3Racing conversion kit.  Blinged it out with carbon and aluminum, HPI Datsun 510 shell.
  • 3Racing M4 Sport:  Bought this to have a belt-drive 4WD M chassis to complement the TT01 4WD M; adding a HPI BMW 2002 shell.
  • RM01 RWD M-chassis:  Modified a RM01 Tom's 84C kit to stretch the wheelbase to 210 mm and accept rubber tires; added a HPI Lancia Stratos shell.
  • M06 Karmann Ghia:  Still NIB, but someday I'll dig into the M06.

I'm a sucker for detailed 1/12 shells...

I am quite an M chassis fan.

I have an M03 in progress with a Mini shell.

This will join my two current runners - an M05-RA Swift and BMW 2002 bodied M04

3F8258F0-F79C-4C10-834B-17EBED3576AF.jpg

Somewhere lurking in the garage I have another couple of M04, one NIP and the other part-built with a few hop-ups. That is destined for a Giulia body.

Up in the loft is a Monte Carlo

To continue the M03 / M04 theme there is the Minortaur  mash-up

I might run it one day!

And incoming is an Escort MF-01X!

I have a M-05 Mini Cooper Monte Carlo, never driven except for a short test without the body in the kitchen. I am waiting for the Ford Escort MK2 body and will probably buy an M-08 for it.

Just an M-06 at the moment but a MF-01X Escort is definitely on the horizon. Will be good to have one I can run on cut grass. Mine was a Low Rider Pumpkin but the body weighed a ton. Much better now with the Nissan Silvia body.

@Badcrumble The Swift was my second M chassis, I had a Mini Cooper then the Swift 1600 but Expert Build. I like how Touring car tires fit nicely on it.

@TurnipJF the teapot hits the character of the m chassis just about rigth. Small classics.

the fiat is eventually interesting but I am

kind of done with the M03. I hopped one up in my opinion too much and sold it. Its capabilities are good but its was the last FWD  M chassis for so many generations... idk fiddling with the M03 becUse there was no M05 is a bit tricky. Now the M05 has so many variations that it is kind of hard to have too much of if.

Really a lot of cars :D

I also have the Silvia body, but on my M05ver2, I know the car is RWD but it looks so good in my opinion.

Agree, just looks so right. To be fair I bet the MO5ver2 handles better than the M-06! Mines crying out for giro I reckon. Still it's good run sliding it everywhere on tarmac.

My M-04 spent several years as a wide-track off-roader too:

However these days it is a Karmann Ghia:

Sorry, It is an M07. But still a lot of fun.

This 2CV is maybe the cleanest I have seen. The white Abarth rims look great, also I notice a Suzuki Swift rear spoiler? Loving the black roof and green color

I would love to accommodate a Ghia next to my Abarth 1000TCR and I need a Giulia 1600... and basically all :D

Not all of my M-chassis cars are oddballs. For example there is my M-03 Mini Cooper Monte Carlo:

2019-10-07_10-57-42

The Monte Carlo shell is purely for display, but it also has a runner/race shell:

2020-03-28_02-27-44

The chassis bears a couple of upgrades in the form of oil dampers, a heatsink/counterweight, alloy hexes, a Sport Tuned motor, M-05 battery holders and of course bearings and a steel pinion.

Please excuse the messy wiring in the photo - it has been subsequently tidied.

M-03 owners will no doubt be all too familiar with the wear that occurs to the bottom leading edge of the chassis which is not protected by the bumper. I fitted a polycarbonate skid plate to avoid this:

In 2018 I bought a Abarth 1000TCR body together with a M05 chassis as that was a reproduction of the shell. And its amazing, selling for 40€ NIP it was a no brainer.

lager after a year I bought from a club member his old used M02, that originally came with a Abarth 1000TCR shell in the 90s. So basically its a restoration of the M02 Abarth kit?

Here it is with my M01 Rover Mini body sitting on a M05RA.

UUEwL9s.jpg

I might apply a new decal sheet on the Mini. Are they hard to find?

edit: I once found on ebay a complete 58444 finished XB body with tires and rims in the set for 100€, the seller didnt have paypal so it was a bit strange. ebay.de tho, could have been legit buy. Still have not forgiven myself.

Before the arrival of my M-07, my M-05 was my primary FWD M-class race chassis. It has a few alloy upgrades, mostly focused on motor cooling and tightening up the steering which can be a bit sloppy in stock form. These are joined by a quick release battery holder, Super Mini CVA shocks and of course bearings and a steel pinion.  Here it is wearing its carpet racing boots:

2021-02-03_11-59-32

In race trim it typically wore a Fiat 500 shell:

2021-01-21_01-32-40

I still race it from time to time, but now that I have got to grips with my M-07, it has been relegated to backup status.

These days, my M-05 is usually set up for light rallying, with knobbly tyres and a Suzuki Swift shell:

Only one that's operational at the moment is this M05.

I really like it, but it isn't really suitable to run on the street where I live currently so it doesn't get much use.

These chrome rims are from a Mercedes M chassis? They look cool on the Mini. Also the NiB picture is stunning so well preserved

Oh, wow @KEV THE REV. They are gorgeous.

I was looking at my (knock-off) Mini bodies this morning and thinking they are just the best bodies for these little chassis.

And despite some of the fantastic models in this thread, your and @TurnipJF’s Minis reinforce that to me.

If only someone at Tamiya could sort out the licensing, they would clean up.
