He seemed to leave us after there was some spat about the main site's photo competition.

I was thinking just the other day. It seems a shame. I think he got the wrong end of the stick, or missed that there was wider discussion in which, while there were some posts that disagreed with him, he also received a lot of support and respect. I might look into whether I can DM him on instagram or something (dunno how that works, I'm a social media luddite). Personally I think he's incredibly talented/dedicated and this place richer for his posts.

It's funny,  but I thought about him the other day that it's been a while since I saw something from him. I checked and he has not been here since end of January. It's a real shame. His knowledge and also point of view on things can really brighten up the day. With tons of hope B) I hope he finds the way back to us.

I don't know - he seemed to be more of a Kyosho man to me, rather than Tamiya, and a bit repetitive in his posts. But the world would be very boring if we all behaved and thought the same!

It's a shame when anyone gets the wrong end of the stick and leaves a community because of it though.

You can definitely DM on Instagram.

Without trying to derail the thread to much this was Willy’s last post before disappearing into IG fame when he hooked up with some big names (and old friends I believe)

It was nice seeing what he produced in huge quantities, but I wouldn’t hold your breath for him coming back here, he doesn’t strike me as the sort of person to go backwards.

I know he had his DM option on here turned off, so maybe he is following the same setup on Insta, no idea.

To me, he was friendly and supportive (which goes for a whole bunch of people still on here - hats off to you!).

I like him a lot and got along with him quite well.  I messaged on IG yesterday and told him we miss him.

I think with Willy the repetition of the theme became the art itself. If Warhol has just done one Monroe no one would have cared. 😄

In all seriousness it's a shame if he's gone. We seem to have lost some good contributors to small spats or disagreements. Lifes too short to argue about things online and its definitely too short to argue about toy cars.

I'm off to stick a cartoon cat into a quick drive!

My 225 Dino on my M07 (yes I know it's not front wheel drive).

The paint is messy and the body cracked randomly round the headlights, but it's fine for a bit of postal racing. Tried some full size TC rims to try out the fit and they seem ok, so will now look for some more suitable ones.

Browsing through the Internet, I found an interesting post on Xitter from 2020. I wasn't the first to try convert MF-01X to mid-rear motor setup. Using the rear half of TL-01 was an idea I considered, but I didn't like the limited gearing and exposed motor. Nevertheless, this conversion is very well done and looks great.

Anyone who owns M-05 stabilizer set, is it possible to measure what's the diameter of wire on all pieces? Thanks

Man those things are like rocking horse poo now!

There is a set on eBay from a seller in Japan but coming in at over £100 delivered. Too rich for me.

Are you thinking of making your own?

iirc @Pylon80 and @Andreas W have them and may be able to help but equally I might be miss remembering.

Sorry,  but I don't have them for the M-05. But in the M-08 on the other hand...

I can get a measurement for you tonight. Actually I believe I already did and posted them in "the postman brought me" for the benefit of another member.

Thank you!

I found your photos of the assembly manual, that's extremely helpful as well :)

Unfortunately, I cannot find diameter measurements..

Right, I hadn't measured it then. So standby :) but be ready to source multiple sizes of music wire as I recall there were 4 different diameters in total.

As for the material I would think any sort of steel will exhibit similar stiffness (Young's modulus) so I wouldn't hesitate to use music wires from the hobby store. They will rust just by looking at them wrong ;) or if they hear you say "moisture!" so I would prime and paint. Stainless on the other hand wouldn't rust but will be much harder to source in the various diameters you want.

Yep, I'd like to give it a try, although it probably won't be easy. Thanks :)

@Pylon80 thank you, I had a similar thoughts, these wires can be sourced quite easily and cheap from hobby stores, but I can imagine they won't be easy to bend the diameter used on M-05.

Nice. Good luck with it and I’d be interested to see how you get on with it if you do.

I very briefly entertained the idea when I saw the cost of what’s available then realised I should probably actually build the car first and also that I haven’t a clue where to actually start in making them anyway

A long shot, but I thought I would ask...

Has anyone tried to fit Rush tires onto Tamiya wheels?

I bought the Rush 36 "round type", the rubber feels very promising, nice and tacky. But then they seem very loose on the m-chassis 11 spoke wheels :(

I am debating pushing them sideways to help the tires conform to the rim while the CA glue sets, or trying to source Rush wheels, with uncertain offset and compatibility with the current car and body that I have.

Thanks!

No experience with them, but seems better for wheels that we like than Ride. They are Ø47mm, so the rim drops straight into the tyre and no glue in the world can fix that ^_^

I normally bend the bead up a little wuthe the thumb and apply a det of CA. Normally 4 dots each side.

Rush plus Tamiya wheels is just on the loose side. I'll try to take a picture. I was hoping someone had tried that combination before I permanently glue the tires.
