Just finishing up my first M-chassis, an M08 Concept. Couple of hop-ups on this one:

TRF Short Dampers 42273

Reinforced C parts and K parts

Titanium Screws

Yeah Racing damper stays and motor fan

Sport-Tuned Motor

Body will be a Team C BMW 2002 (livery ideas welcomed!)

So Team C is punching out the HPI BMW 2002 Cup Racer Body?

@Raman36 This is the Team C body and decal set. It’s a 2-piece body, which is something new for me, but I believe the HPI is a 2-piece as well (just going by pics online). I stumbled upon the Team C version on eBay for a reasonable price, so I grabbed it.

That’s the HPI, identical sticker sheet even.. they either bought the mould or copied it

One of my first M chassis cars came with a used  BMW 2002 shell, I always assumed that it was an HPI body but there were no light buckets and the add-ons were wheelarch (fender?) flares at the rear (and maybe the front?). Unless my memory is playing tricks. Which is possible. I can't go check just now, it's four boxes down in the stack in the garage.

I realise now that the side stripes aren't marked up 'hpi' as I believe they would have been. There are also wiper stickers. Perhaps this is one of the reasons I've never been able to get the shell sitting quite right?!

HPI Cup Racer bodies were all 2 piece mould. They rear piece on Datsun 510, Porsche 911, BMW 2002 needed to be attached.

The BMW came with light buckets. What I found odd thought was the head lights on body.. they were flush when real car had them protruding

210mm wheelbase M-06 chassis. Waiting on some 60D tyres to better fill out the wheel arches.

Excuse my ignorance, but which (Tamiya) chassis will the HPI 2002 shell fit?

The Team C version is made for 225mm M-chassis cars. Body width is 165mm.

The original 959 kit used 1/10 size wheels, correct?

So I’m thinking of showing up at our next club race with USGT ride tyres and running this against them 🤣

You will never get all the hop-ups on one car because of different material options for the same part, carbon shock towers vs alloy, carbon gear shafts vs hollow stainless etc.

But I can see the stabiliser set, low friction step screw, and alloy counter weight missing. Regardless, that is an impressive fleet of minis, and the Pro M05 looks absolutely mesmerising with that sea of blue!

Been slacking..well, been working on my Willy's Wheeler, Honda City WR02, and M38 restore the last several weeks.  :D

Here are the M03 (left) and M05 with their shells.   These are actual driving heights.. actually all pictures shown thus far are all driving heights, not lowered/posed for photo's.   The M03 is fast.

Fair point, perhaps I need to say all "non-mutually exclusive" Hop-Ups... I built these all over a decade ago now, it's difficult to remember what I did/didn't include and what was actually available at the time. I wasn't aware of the counterweight or step screws, I wonder if they were even released back then?

But now you've caused me to add said items to a shopping cart! 🙄😁

I absolutely love M-chassis and I've collected a lot of them over the years. Most I never even took a picture off, some I posted a lot. I have a bunch of Tamiya but also a lot from other brands like Xpress, ABC Hobby, Robbe, HPI and more.

This is my latest one, a brand new build M01 with pretty much all Tamiya upgrades installed. Really happy with it :) I have some Tech Racing options aswell as multiple Moss Green chassis sets and I might put some of it on this car, but I have two other donors so I'm not sure yet. This is so perfect I don't really want to mess with it.

My favorite M-chassis are still my transparent M03 and my racer ABC Hobby Gambado Naked.

Are there any 4WD m-chassis sized cars in production? I've see the Mfx01 but I'm not sure how suitable it would be for on-road conversion (carpet).

Looks the Ta05 M-Four is long out of production...
