Just wondering (idle mind is dangerous thing) about all the "Misc" stuff on showrooms... how can one look at all the items members have listed under "Misc"??

Posted

Once again, if you read the users agreement all Misc stuff goes to Chris. It can be seen at his house. icon_smile.gif

easy one this - come on guys keep up.

Visit anyone showroom with a Misc in it (like mine) click on a misc item and at the top by the title you will see a link which says 'click here for more miscs' - just as it says 'click here for more' whatever car you are looking at.

Be prepaired though this is a BIG page to load - there is a lot more in here than i had anticipated. Users with slower connections may get time outs.

Mikey:- Don't all MG owners always have a full toolset & emergency kit already onboard?? icon_smile_blush.gif Unlike "modern" tincans, all one needs is a socket set, shifter spanner and a screwdriver and one can just about fix everything!!

Ya, the *only* time I took the kit out was when the Bride had to get in and lookee what happens... we Broke a Bleeding HALFSHAFT!! icon_smile_shock.gif Yup, ain't leaving the garage ever again without a toolkit onboard.

Hmm... seems to be a few rust spots on the BGT's fenders. We've been buying Selley's RustFix by the gallon bottle... until recently when I discovered Coke does a pretty good job too - Geez, and we still dare drink that brown fizz...! icon_smile_dead.gif

Willy, Thanks for the tip with the coke, that's something i always have in the car !icon_smile_big.gif

As for the tool kit, i do keep the odd few tools handy & blow torch and big lump hammericon_smile_shock.gificon_smile_evil.gif, all the electrics and engine have been sorted but the running gear hasn't been touched since new !aaagggghhhh, every bolt is rusted on, even burnt my hands on the spanner through heat transfer keep going backwards and forwards to not snap the bolts.

Took me ages to change the rear axle, (did the same as you, broke the halfshaft, weren't wheelspinning were weicon_smile_wink.gif? i was, sideways around a corner, didn't half go with a bangicon_smile_sad.gif) huge job on my own and with only a silly little jack! was done on the dirt before i got the drive tarmaced, i had a heart attack when it rained and the jack sunk!icon_smile_dead.gif LOL

It was about 1 mm from hitting the wall, scarey job getting it back up!icon_smile_blush.gif

I'll probably invest in a new bumper / chrome set when the body's done (should be cheaper than a SS one LOL), If you look close enough at the pic, she looks like she's crying rust stains, ahh!

I'll put a smile back on her face soooooooon ! LOL

Haha, mine's a Oz-delivered car so its never seen salt roads in its 47 years - specifically looked for one of those. Oz is great for old bombs:- warm, low humidity etc.

Surprisingly every single nut that I've taken off has come off easily (some more easily than others) ... of course I've gone and replaced all that I've taken off with new fasteners - just cheap insurance. And yeah, Loctited everything too (& who says RC don't teach kids anything?).

TF1500 is surprisingly nippy - guess its quite lightweight! Pretty much known as "WRX" of its times, today still keeps up well with modern (in Melb = obnoxious, rude, no manners, speeding) traffic. Even with Michelin XZX radials there's enough grunt to break traction and do donuts, although the tyres are probably 10+ yrs old by looks. Probably only a MGA TwinCam might match it for pace.

The halfshaft went without even a pop on wedding night. No big noise anything, just completely lost drive in the hotel underground carpark. It was a clean shear resulting in crystallised surfaces so I guess its probably a manufacturing defect in an old forged part.

Not *that* silly to go mucking around with rear axles... took one look at the manual (1 copy in car, 1 by bed and 1 for the garage) and when I saw the need for torque wrenches, gear pullers and messy oil draining - wasn't much of a hard decision to tow it straight to the shop. We have great support for MGs down in Oz and the RACV organised a lowloader flatbed within 20 mins.

I now have a hydraulic jack and axle stands, i got some when i had to do the brakes, got fed up of pumping the pedal to get brake pressure. My biggest problem is that i just adapt to the way the car drives rather than fixing it straight away. That's all changed now that i have a garage to do it in ,

The weird thing was that the axles are not symetrical, i have been told by MG that this is normal ! so now i want too swap the axles back again (the 1 that broke is better) putting the half shaft into that axle because i renovated it. At least all the blots are new now, The other problem i had was at somepoint in time someone had removed the rear shackles and put them in the wrong way then welded a new boot floor pan in, what a pain in the butt that was trying to grind them off.

I do enjoy it when the work is done though ,i can stand back and think I DID IT !.

Always wanted a car that i could do everything too myself, and boy did i get it! hee hee!

Call me hypochrondriac, but I'm suspecting I've got a dicky axle too that might be longer on 1 side icon_smile_shock.gif (news courtesy of the MG forum that I also frequent). Wheel on LHS is further 'out' than on the RHS whose halfshaft broke; will have to go crawl around underneath sometime with a tape measure.

Sigh...
