TT02 vs TT-01E

Recommended Posts

I was thinking my next kit should be TT-02 (was planning on getting one closer to summertime). Today i found a good price on TT-01E, what is the main diftrences?, what about access to spare parts.

I do not want a low Chassis for a Rally car and what i heard is that TT-02 is actually a bit to low so it makes it best to drive on slick asphalt?, in the description it also say TT-01E is low, si probably i should look for a different chsssis, like the new MK2 kit MF-01X

Both chassis seem to still be in production, and the differences between them are minimal. From what I know, the TT02 is more versatile, with a 'high' and 'low' setting for the wheel hubs, which would make it useful if you want to go offroad. You'll need to find a way to keep rocks and dirt from accumulating in the tub chassis for both of them though.

Kamtec make nicely fitting chassis covers for both cars, in clear or carbon finish polycarbonate, so stone protection isn't a problem for either.

The '01 isn't as simple to convert to rally, needing slight trimming of the suspension downstops, but once this is done, it seems to be a more stable rally platform than the '02 based on an informal back-to-back test I took part in a while ago. On the same tyres and comparable power, my '01 rally car would drift around corners whereas my mate's '02 would roll.

So out of the box TT-02 is a better rally chassis if i want it on s bit rough gravel as well, i will ofc add bearings and probably good oildampers right away...

Bearings, oil shocks and a steel pinion - the so-called "Big 3" - are a good starting point with any base model TT build.

For rally, I would suggest rubber sealed bearings such as the ones from Rcbearings.co.uk instead of the metal shielded ones sold for the chassis by many hobby stores, as they are better at keeping dirt out and subsequently last longer with less maintenance.

There's a pretty nice comparison on youtube by Mark Bryan:

Mark Bryan is one of my favorite RC YT channels.  Very chill and I dig that.

the TT-02 has better options when it comes to gearing. you can get the YEah Racing motor mount and Tamiya high speed gear to get  more gearing options if that is something you want.

spares and upgrades is about the same for both. there is plenty, and generally easy to find too.

Desided i will still go for TT-02 chassis for my Rally car. It will probably be Subaru Impreza, that amazing looking Audi or Escorte :), can hardly wait for summer :)

I always felt that the TT01 has a bit more give in it, so it can handle a few more crashes, whereas the TT02 is a bit more rigid and responds better to shock tuning. Just my thoughts.
