Escort Mk2 body for XV-01 chassis?

Recommended Posts

Hello, new to the Forum.

Does anyone know where I could get a good quality body for the XV-01 chassis?

I’m yet to purchase my first Tamiya and from what I’ve read so far, this is the chassis that would suit my needs. I know Tamiya has recently released a MF-01X chassis kit with the Escort body but I believe the XV-01 with lomg dampers is a better chassis for rallying.

hope anyone can advise,

Many thanks.

L&L Models is usually the place to go for such things, but they seem to be completely out of stock these days.

I have had a look at their site, and as you say, a lot of stuff are oos unfortunately. However, I think the bodies/shell that they have are mostly to fit the TT-01/02 chassis. The wheelbase is different to the XV-01 I believe!

Tt02 and XV01 have the same wheelbase I believe. The Lancia delta fits both?

Yes you are correct. 257mm wheelbase. This might make it easier to source a body then. As the TT-01/02 are very popular, I think anyway.

As @DeadMeat666 says above L&L are a good source of bodies. Not quite as well defined as Tamiya ones but a good selection. Again they seem to have little or no stock at present. Their stickers are ok but the backgrounds sometimes conflict with the body shell. For bashing there’s also Kamtec. They do a good Bowler Wildcat that fits the XV01.

Sorry never mind :)

I thought I found a rally body but it turned out to be for the M-chassis, and hence not suitable for the XV01.

Was going to ask a similar question and then found this thread.

L and L now have Escort mk1 and mk2 rally bodies in and they quote 257mm wheelbase, and that they fit tt-02, however the mk1s specifically say they don't fit the XV-01. Like this one:

https://landlmodels.co.uk/collections/10th-touring-car-bodies/products/mk1-escort-body-shell-kit-190mm

Yet people say body shells are interchangeable between tt-02 and xv-01.

NB they don't add the same note on the mk2s.

So has anyone put a mk1/2 escort body on an XV-01? Which shell did you get? Any issues? I could swear there was a video on this but I can't find it now.

And can anyone tell me what the compatibility issues are for interchangeability of shells between tt-02 and xv-01 generally?

I ask because I've bought but not built up an XV-01 and I'd like to try to do a nice job of an escort on it. Ideally a mk1. I'll also do something for bashing because I won't want to smash up the kit Lancia shell either.

Could it be because the mk1  bodies are lower overall and the height of the suspension stays and the mud guards on the xv01 make the body impossible to fit? because wheelbase and width seem fine on paper...

As for compatibility I use all my tt02/xv01 bodies without issues on both chassis (subaru impreza, lancia delta, escort wrc, toyota celica, mitsubishi evo....), I´ve set the tt02 with the same position for the posts as in the xv01 and they all fit perfect, my xv01 is the long damper spec and so some bodies sit higher on the xv01 and lower on the tt02 but that is all...

Possibly because of the short front overhang of the Escort body v the front motor position of the XV01?

I'm kind of thinking that if it's that it might be down to cutting a second foam bumper a bit for this shell, which sounds straightforward enough. Or cutting away the shell there if it becomes a bashing shell. Maybe I'll get the mk1 first and it can be my basher if I end up with an ugly cut out or it sitting a bit high.

Surprised if no ones done it though? Seem to be a few of these shells out there for rally.

Anyway, it might be a while til I build this.

I think Kamtec have a 1/10 Mk2 Escort body as well if that’s any help.

Yeah they've got a few options. Look good for applying a bit of creativity but not if after classic rally decals. I can see myself doing a bit of both.
