XV-01 are they still available?

Recommended Posts

They seem out of stock everywhere in chassis kit form! There are the odd one left with the Lancia body but at a higher price than they used to be, so just wondering if they have stopped producing them?!

I think we're at the whim of a mid-covid world where there are blockages in the supply chain and limitations on manufacturing. Not withstanding an increased level of demand for kits from folks stuck at home.

Whereabouts are you based, as I can see XV01s in Tamico for example

Just had a look in Tamico but they only had the Lancia model kit (which is a bit more expensive than others I had seen). The chassis kit is sold out unfortunately (long damper version, couldn’t find any other XV-01 chassis on their site😒

The have the XV01T too
https://tamico.de/Tamiya-Asterion-XV-01T-Kit-58552

There's another thread kicking round on this topic at the moment, where the difference between the XV01 and the XV01T seems to be the colour of the arms and a slight difference in wheelbase (2mm?)

So buying replacement bumper parts and arms might put you in the right place.

The Delta body tends to be expensive on it's own in my experience, so you might well be able to move that on pretty easily. XV01 bare kits yeah, I've not seen those in a long while. The Long Damper ones are a 'special edition' of sorts, so tend to come and go quite quickly.

I think you'll either have to be patient to get the one you want (eta May I saw on MakeItBuildIt), or pay the premium to convert a Lancia or XV01T.

If it were me, I'd get the Tamico XV01t and then go from there. The carbon reinforced bits 54444 I think are the replacement arms.

The XV01t is a fun truck in it's own right :)

The other challenge with Tamico right now is shipping to the UK, which because of Brexitshambles isn't available direct from their website, you need to email them and sort it out that way

As @jupitertwo says, if you're keen to get going then you might be as well buying the Delta kit and selling the body set on if you want to use something different. The XV-01 Delta kit is in stock at hobbydirekt.de who do offer UK shipping

Or, if you're patient, Modelsport here in the UK are showing in stock from 1st May, Wonderland on 10th April

@Dewin Seems I was typing at the same time as @dannymulder

Berlinski looks like a good bet for the Scooby, in stock and shipping to the UK B)

Hard to tell if they're collecting the UK VAT ahead of shipping or if you might get hit for that at Import stage, something to bear in mind

I've bought from both of those no problem, pre brexit. Hopefully yeah they take the 19% off before you check out, so when HMRC add the 20% back on you're not really far out of pocket.

Now to resist the urge to get another XV01 for the fleet :D

2mm

Think you’ll find they are exactly the same. I can fit tt02 bodies to my Asterion.

Yeah, they do fit. I can see it slightly different to the eye, and I was referring to this post regarding the 2mm difference

Not much in it, but the Porsche 934 officiandoes certainly seem to worry about it on those chassis :D

I've been on the hunt for a XV01 kit but they seem to have vanished from UK stores. I've heard that more are due in April time from the importer. There does seem to be stock in Europe still, but at quite a price premium!

Quite disappointed that once I figured out the kit I wanted, the stocks had all but dried up in the UK 😒

Thanks for the help and info guys. Much appreciated. Anyone know if a mk2 escort body would fit the Xv-01T chassis then? 🤔

The Tamiya Escort for the MF01-X has a wheelbase of 239mm, where the XV-01 is 257mm, so I don't think so

There is an option from L&L Models, but IMO the quality is nowhere near Tamiya

Any 257mm body will fit...Impreza Monte Carlo, Impreza WRX, Audi Quattro Rally....

I was initially going to go for this (MF-01X Escort Mk2) but then after reading many posts on here, found that the XV-01 is a much better chassis for giving a more ‘real driving’ rally feel to it! But like you say, options for a ml2 body on the XV-01 is pretty limited.

Be patient and wait till the new year is over in China and stock will be back to normal. Just a good week to wait.

Tamiya has seem a rise in popularity of the XV01 and there are a load of the Subaru kits coming into the country at some point. Although it looks like April / May time.

Thanks guys, looks hopeful there still producing them so that’s good. Will hold out for a kit or possibly the Lancia model kit.

Any recommendations for ESC and servo to go with this kit? Will possibly be looking for an upgrade motor too so maybe best going for a combo?
