MF-01X Servo Suitability?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have the new Tamiya Ford Escort MK II which of course comes with the MF-01X chassis. As part of the purchase bundle, I have an inexpensive Tamiya-Carsen Low Profile Steering Servo CS3 with metal gears.

However, I have also got hold of the Yeah Racing Suspension upgrade suspension kit for this chassis, and it's recommended to use a higher torque steering servo.

So my questions are:

1. Is the Carsen-Tamiya CS3 up to the job?

2. If not, then which  steering servo should I use that will fit into the limited space for the MX-01X?

3. Does anyone have any experience of steering servo torque issues on the Tamiya MF-01X, particularly with an ugraded suspension?

Many thanks and kind regards. kitefighter

The cs3 as I understand it is a basic servo like the futaba 3003, perfectly fine for the job of the mf-01x, if the suspension kit has some alloy on it then a 9kg torque or higher would suit better, check out modelsport if in the uk

Thank you for the advice. I think I’ll just try the CS3 and see how it steers, upgrade later if needed.

By the way, what does a servo saver arm do?

As the name suggests, it offers protection to the servo gears. Most include a spring arrangement which absorbs some of the impact should the steering be forcibly deflected in a crash. They were pretty much vital back in the days of plastic-geared servos, however nowadays with tough high-torque metal-geared servos being more affordable, they generally protect the steering mechanism from being damaged when an impact tries to deflect the front wheels against the force of a strong servo.

Thanks for that. Can you tell me if the Tamiya 51000 high torque servo would be compatible with the MF-01x?

You will need to buy the aluminum long servo horn from Tamiya to go along with it; it does not work with the stock plastic horn. Tamiya Part# 54120.
