Hey all,

Thanks for letting me in.

I have really enjoyed building up my MF-01x ford escort mk2.

Wanting to tune it up a bit I looked into shocks and bought some Yeah Racing big bore 50mm dampers based on reading 50mm shocks are for the chassis. However on fitting I realise the stock friction dampers are 55mm and fitting these will drop a fair bit of ride height. Since om running it off road I need to keep clearance.

Can I swap out the piston lengths for longer or do I need a full set of diffrent shocks.

With the note that the rear right arm clashes with body can I fit 60mm shocks here and try to space if off the body?

Also what oil should I be getting for them?

Thanks

On the Yeah Racing Shock Gear set you can change the shaft length. I changed from 50 mm to 55 mm just by replacing the gold shock shafts. This way I could use these shocks for my TL01. So my guess is that you can do the same with the Big Bore shocks too. (The 50 mm shafts were used in plastic Tamiya shocks and mounted on a TT01.)

The piston is the plastic disk at the top of the shock shaft. You could try different rod ends on the bottom of the shock shafts.

An oil weight between 20-40 should work depending on the surface.

The yeah racing part you need is dsg-s55. However, these will just be 3mm piston rods so tamiya parts will swap in if they are easier to source for you. Tamita 53575 are the rods from the 55mm TRF dampers and are only £8 a set in the uk. If you want more clearance again, get 2 lots of 53334 which have long and short eyelets. The long eyelets will lengthen your shocks even more.

Oil-wise, 400cst is always a good starting point, and if you have the option probably the damper piston with the most holes in. Those 50mm shocks are designed for on road, so for a light offroad car you want less damping. Maybe even 300cst oil. Core RC is good stuff, and cheap and readily available if you're in the uk.

Thanks Thunder, ill get both and have a play. Now I just need to figure out how best to space them off the rear mount points correctly to help with the clash.

Well, you already have the ball connectors for the shock ends of your new shock. Do a rough position of of where you need the shock to clear everything, then measure from the outer edge of the ball connector to the inner edge of the shock tower. That should give you an idea of how long a screw you need. Buy some m3 screws around that length (it will probably be 16mm or 20mm long but might be more) and find some spacers from the kit. There's usually some spare from shocks or othet bits, and get it working.
