Ok so my Son's plasma edge is probably going to cook his motor again.  He had started using it alot on a blocked paved road, and it as destroying the spiked stock tyres. I got him some trax wheels and didn't realise they were 10 cm dia. They look great though. Yes I know we are probably over geared, but it's lots of fun. So my question is how to make life easier for the motor.

Currently using 21 turn Core RC brushed

17 t pinion gear, standard spur gear, which I think is a 70.

To make life more fun we also use a 2s lipo 5300

Car runs fine on the standard tyres, but seems to needs the NiMH battery with the big wheels.

Any advice for helping the motor, slowing it down / less torque is fine.

Going down to a 16t pinion (which is as small as you can go with the stock motor mount) will definitely help, and may be just enough to keep the motor from committing suicide.

Switch to a brushless motor. If you have the standard TBLE-02S then a cheap 13.5T will be a lot of fun on 2S.  With the kit wheels you need to go for the biggest pinion you can, so the bigger wheels with kit gearing should work well.

Otherwise you'd need the high-speed gearset and a bigger spur, then the Yeah Racing motor mount so you can get the gearing right for that motor.
