Volkswagen Type2 T1 Bus - Motor problem

Recommended Posts

This is my first model being attempted and so far so good.

One problem at the moment when trying to fix the motor in place.

The two 25mm screws do not screw into the end of the motor as it looks on the diagram. There does not seem to be anything to catch the screws in the motor.

One other thing, which I am embarrassed to ask.

How do you remove the stickers from the backing paper?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, The screws with the motor issue is probably that the motor holes are not quite lined up with the screws. It does need some jiggling OR you have not put the pinion on correct and its catching the spur? take the pinion of the motor then try to mount the motor,if it mounts ok you know its the pinion.

Regards the stickers, cut around the sticker as close as you can without hitting the design THEN using knife/scalpel try to catch the edge of the cut ,I use the very tip of the blade dug into the sticker at a corner, just be careful either way not to damage the sticker

Also remove motor from gearbox and screw the screws directly into motor to make picking up the thread easier.  At least you will know that the screws will work and it's just a case of lining up the holes..

Hope that makes sense.

Good luck with the stickers on that shell. Very time consuming.

@oliverd If you screw (only 3-4 turns) the Steering Linkage BB10 into one of the holes on the motor before fitting the Motor Plate and Pinion, you can use this as a guide pole through the fixing hole in the gearbox and pivot the motor to line up the opposite hole with the 25mm screw. When first screw is tightened remove the Steering Linkage and fit the second screw.

Good luck, Martin.

Regarding the decal sheet question, I cut the decals (not through the backing liner) freehand with a very sharp knife and bend the sheet a little to lift the edge and either catch it with the tip of the blade (make sure you degrease the blade before use) or use a fine tip tweezer to pull the decal off the liner.

I work on real car vinyl and the easiest way to align the RC decal is to spray a little bit of distilled water on the adhesive side once off the liner, and also on your finger tips (prevents finger prints on clear sections) and attach onto the body.  If mis aligned you can pull up the decal with your tweezers without stretching the decal.

Once positioned, spray distilled water over the decal (for lubricity) and  take a soft silicon squeegee to push the water out.

Once fully dry I take a heat gun to push down all the edges once again and to contour the decal to the body.  Good luck.

Martin,

Your idea worked very well - motor installed - thanks.

Also will try the advice about the stickers - thanks everyone.
