Where are these watermark's chris? I looked a few different pages in a couple of manual and could not see one. Just wondered what you meant.

Have things really got that bad you have to keep track of or movements then? I presume you were thinking about those sellers recently on Ebay with large numbers of copied manuals and that seller that downloaded all those manuals from that other site (sorry can't think of its name right now)

What do you actually class as large numbers of downloads? I dont want to be banned just because i browse over a few different car manuals every month. Thats how i choose what car to buy/look for.

Fair questions...

The watermark is embedded using an Adobe Photoshop plugin - don't know how it works but it embeds it in the file so its not visable to the naked eye, but if someone copies it uses it somewhere else - even cropped, the watermark can still be read with the software. Clever stuff. I've not done this for the adverts/reviews as, to be honest, its a bit of a pain in the *** for me to do. Visible ones are a lot quicker.

'Suspicious behavoiur' is trying to download 20 plus manuals in one go (ie continuously). No one will be banned without me checking it out first though.

All these efforts to protect the stuff on the site, are basically there to stopp people making a quick buck of the hard work of all those people that take the time to contribute.

Would it be possible to come up with a system where a member could download an entire manual at once? Maybe do something where you must be logged in to a TC userid (no guests), and get only 1 manual per day or something to protect against those ebay-CD people?
