Hello,

i saw just a youtube Clip where someone is using airfilled tires.

I know the Sand Scorcher Tires are somewhat semi pumped or should i say "Airtrapped" and i like the idea.

But is anyone using Air instead of foams?

I thought Foams are the "RC Way" especially on offroad. The only bad thing is that Foam can soak in Water and get mouldy and brittle....

Does using air make any sense? Could we use tubes inside the tires??

It sounds like a gimmick to me.  Air works in 1:1 where there is so much weight that needs to be suspended but I don't think it has any use in RC, as least not for touring-size tyres.  We use foams because they are made to provide exactly the right amount of give for the weight of the car.

I kind of get it for crawlers if you can adjust the pressure according to the conditions but I suspect the valve body would either be cumbersome and annoying, or get blocked with all the dirt that crawlers inevitably go through.

I've not long a, 1981 Kyosho Sand Skipper, that came with a pump, to pump up the tyres.

I'm thinking it didn't catch on, as it's not really needed. The weight of the cars are of such, that we can just run 'run flat' tyres.

In racing, choosing your insert is the same as choosing your tyre pressure, with zero risk of a puncture. As (rear) tyres generally only last one full race meeting, even if they get wet, they don't get time to rot.

Can't imagine smooth running ,running that wheel in the vid, the vibration would shake your car to bits! 😳😂😂

Man I couldn't afford to race at your clubs!  I get a season out of a set of tyres on dirt, seems to be the same onroad.  A set of tyres costs more than the race entry!  Expensive weekend (and then I remember how we chewed out $460 of semi-slicks in 3 hours last weekend in our 24 hour race...)

Wow! A season!!?! 😯

Think I'm £8 for a pair of rears, (so £18 all in fir the day) and last 6 races when at national (well, scotland is classed as a region, even though its it's own country, and the closest a national gets ,is 300 miles south, and even then it's not every year, as it's considered too far north....😳) ,  level.

The first race of the season, I run a new pair for 4 heats,  swap to a new pair for the last heat and the final. Those then run for the first 4 heats ,then swap to new again for the last heat and the final. I need a race to get used to new tyres and any set up changes.
