How to mount Lexan Bodyparts

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i just got my Ford Body cutted, painted in Blue and backed with black.

I put a Vinylsheet on the Bed that gives the Body a more scalish look.

I'm quite happy with the outcome, because i hate Lexan. I always get Paint under the Masks ect.

So now i have to glue the Bodyparts tho the Body. I do not have shoegoo. One tiny Bottle costs abut 25 Bucks shipped..... and there are a lot of different shoegoos, i wouldn't know what to buy...

Is there a other glue that i can use?

Double sided tape came to my mind, but im afraid that the Paint would flake off....

Silicone would be an option, but i think it wouldnt stick enough...

Construction silicone for glass / glazing etc will do the job - Everbuild Premium + 450 sticks to Upvc & glass etc - other products are available

Today i've glued the Sunroof to the Body with Shoe & leather Glue.

The Racingback is screwed to the body with 2 tiny screws and nuts.

I have used ShoeGoo on my Forumla 1 shells. Some of them have air intakes as a separate lexan part you have to glue to the rest of the shell. The instructions call for double sided tape but that didn't seem like a very nice/permanent solution to me.

You can protect places where you don't want any ShoeGoo runs with masking tape then remove the masking tape before the ShoeGoo fully sets.

I think it might  just shear off with light impact.

I use thin VHB mounting tape for stuff like this.
