M05 to RWD conversion?

Recommended Posts

Ok I purchased a flower power type 2 VW van (2 of them actually as you do) but being a VW lover I would prefer the chassis to be RWD and rather than have to purchase new chassis outright I would like to know if anyone has converted a standard M05 chassis to RWD and how they did it please. I had a search on TC and the web without much success. Looking forward to hearing people’s ideas, suggestions and experiences in attempting this.

I think someone on here might have done it 🤔 Think it involved swapping the arms/hubs front to back and reversing the servo and running top mounted steering links.

Local distributor had the red/white painted version on the M06 (RR) until recently, suprised you didn't get that one?

It's worth mentioning that if you reverse the chassis, your motor will be running backwards.  That's OK for a silvercan - you just reverse the bullet connectors to the ESC and it will run backwards with no problems.

However it does mean you're limited to motors with 0 degrees static timing, or motors with adjustable timing that allow you to select 0 degrees or rotate past the 0 degree point so you can get some advance with the motor running backwards.  In other words, beware mildly tuned motors that have some static advance.

I might have a couple of those ones also of course….you know how I roll Neil. The one I got was pretty cheap also which was nice for a change. Trying to buy local these days but not to often.
