Is it just me??

I'm refering to the fact that more and more people, here and in general, seem to not like using normal English anymore.

I mean for example, GR8 instead of Great, Wat instead of What, you know the sort of thing I mean.

So, am I the only one who doesn't like this way of writing?? I know that a lot of people here do not use English as a first langauge and think it must be tough to understand some of this text talk.

Or maybe I've just having a Tuesday rant!!

English standards here are actually pretty good... compared to some other chatboards which might attract more 'younger' persons. Try ausmicro.com for example... many of the posters there would surely cause their English teachers apoplexy if they knew.

For the last decade or so, Asutralian schools have followed (what I believe) is the American concept of not teaching kiddies to spell first but to tolerate them "writing how (they think) it sounds like". Talk about dumbing down of the next generation.

Yeah why is "Ph" pronounced "F".?? And shouldnt "Fields" be spelt "feelds". Seems alittle obvious that the english language is deliberaetly complicated. Although iuf I started typing in Scottish, no one would have a clue what I was saying. [;)][:D]

Thanx

Phonetically is spelled that way because it has a greek origin, they usually use ph instead of f for greek routed words, another example, photo from phos which means light, phoni is voice.

Writing phonetically sounds stupid to me. For every language spoken on this planet, there are rules of correct grammar & spelling.[^] I must admit that sometimes i'll write funny, but that's only for, well... fun's sake!!![:o)]

Can you say "agrammatos" ("illiterate" in Greek)?[;)]
