Next kit to buy?

Recommended Posts

Revisiting this. Since I last posted I've acquired the TA03R-S, a TA03F, and a TD2, and enjoy them all. I've also continued to add upgrades to existing kits, but probably not at the rate I had been.

I'm now debating either the XV02, or the TA08. The XV02 looks interesting, but doesn't quite interest me like the XV01 did, also I like the belt drive. The TA08 looks really interesting to build, and is an interesting evolution from the TA03s I have, but might be wasted running around on the street outside my house.

M07/08 are great builds - TB05 is interesting build as well and might not mind the street too much?

I feel like my situation is very similar to OP's. Bought a monster beetle last December, then a hornet, then a sand scorcher, then a TT02. Then I bought the XV01 and I reckon it's one of my favourites. Partly because I bought as many hop ups as I could afford; partly because the build was really interesting; and partly because it has such a large fan community that comparing notes with other people.online amplifies the enjoyment.

I would totally recommend it if you don't have one and especially if you already have a TT02 because I feel like the two complement each other in terms of being similar but slightly different when it comes to the build and the handling.

I’m at the stage where I don’t really have any RC projects, apart from a few bits on the DT02-SN buggy and the interior for the 037 Lancia. I have an Protoform Europa body on order for my M05 but when that will arrive I have no idea. Now my real problem is what next. I probably have space for one more model so I need it to count. My first ever Tamiya was a scorcher even though I wanted a Ranger. So one plan is a re re scorcher reconfigured to take an Ampro improved F150 body and correct wheels and tyres. I have a set of MCI stickers that came with my set foc!!!

A Porsche? But which one. I don’t want anything that would need to be a shelf queen cos it’s rare but I am picky about wheelbase and wheel tyre width. Is there a Porsche that fits the bill. I don’t want to be fiddling around swapping arms, extending axles etc.

An M07 but I can’t seem to find a body that I really like. There are some nice L&L bodies but they are let down by the stickers. Whatever it needs to be chassis correct ie fwd.

Some kind of 6/8 wheeler using linked comical buggy chassis’s but it’s the body that always becomes an issue.

As well as actual models I need to decide if I buy a new radio set as my Sanwa and Flysky are full. I must admit I’ve currently got my DT02 on an old Stick Planet T5 and if I could get some receivers I’d stick( no pun intended) with that as for bashing I think I prefer it to a wheel.  Finally I could do with a duo/quad charger, that can do lipo storage/balance etc and NiMh as well.

Having said all of the above don’t really excite me I think I’ve just lost a little Mojo.. I need to get rid of my TD4 and maybe a couple of other things to re ignite my interest????

hey ho food for thought!!!!!

It sounds like anything other than that Scorcher / Ranger wont scratch the itch.

As a change of direction, what about one of the Kyosho Legendary buggies - something back to basics 2wd like the Scorpion or Beetle? Its a really lovely build with mostly alloy parts apart from the plastic tub and completely different to any of the Tamiya kits you will have built before. They also run very well too (and some hop ups are available)

Ill add that to the list. Had kind of thought along those lines. I think your right about the scorcher. As long as i can do moderen electrics and batteries though. Waiting for my clockwork charger to fill up an old humpback pack is like an old nightmare!!!!!!

Just read this thread! I would like to buy the optima mid but I've noticed YET AGAIN the dates have been moved to the end of may:unsure:........so who knows is this going to be the mythical buggy that only a few far eastern countries managed to actually see one:ph34r:
