Mini Garden Track Project

Recommended Posts

Here we go everyone!! Lunchbox hits the Orchard Raceway today with the Grasshopper firmly in its sights! Will it beat the time from the GH of 8.87??
This Lunchbox has some lovely hop ups and a 21T motor pumping out the big ones to get it moving…. Problem might be keeping those front wheels on the ground 😁

Final Orchard Raceway runner in the Hopper Class is the Tamiya Mad Bull.

I love this buggy with massive tyres and some CVA shocks on my model. Can it dethrone the Frog at the top of the Hopper Leaderboard??

RC Time Trial Orchard Raceway 2024 Modern 2WD Hot Laps Time Attack

Are you ready for more OR content?

Modern 2WD division takes to the Orchard Raceway this week.

First up is the Tamiya Rising Fighter bouncing around the track.

Then we see the Tamiya DT03, runner up from 2022. It is out for redemption after a very poor showing in 2023.

Derek the Tamiya Holiday Buggy follows with plenty of oomph this year from a RZ motor paired with a carbon chassis.

Bringing up the rear is the Tamiya TD2 which was a finalist in 2022 but also had a tough season in 2023.

Let me know what you think of this collective video?

Great! I love the format. I liked the car by car format but like the complete class format better.

@Tamiyastef It ended up being easier to piece this together and I am so pleased how it worked out. Just means a little wait until the next one but it is all in the can 😁 Vintage 2WD up next!!

Nice video 👍🏻

I was surprised at how well the Holiday Buggy performed as well.

@Re-Bugged Thank you so much for checking the video out! The Holiday Buggy has been through some serious modifications and is certainly a step up but it was not able to match the TD2 or the mighty DT03 even with a better motor!!

I am a little behind on video production this summer but al the divisions are at least filmed and I am ready to run the finale in August.

Here is the start of the Vintage 2WD division with my Kyosho Raider taking to the track. Never going to be the fastest but a car which I can’t get enough of as it was my first ever RC. This one is a rebuild of two eBay finds with some modern additions. Next season this is getting a rebuild with a fully carbon chassis which is a nod to the old California Hot Trick!

Following the Raider was my Madcap. This was another eBay find which turned into a project in its own right. It is half Madcap half Super Astute but as you can see the end result is very satisfying.

Wow, I haven't seen this thread in quite a while. You've been busy! This gives me inspiration and ideas about my own backyard (well, side-yard) track, which is now in the planning stages.

It also makes me want another Raider...

@markbt73 thanks pal! There have been a number of seasons for the Orchard Raceway and I don’t intend on stopping just yet. The fleet keeps growing and I try to mix things up each year to make it interesting for me and those that enjoy watching along.

You can’t beat a Raider!!

This season is set up for a fantastic finale in a few months time but until then enjoy catching up 🙌🏻

Third up in the vintage 2WD division is the Kyosho Ultima. Can it move the Madcap off pole position? This RC was 2nd place overall last season so it has the legs to go all the way!

With that Music this was a Epic video

Quote Lyric (not 100% accurate):

"In the days of Rally`s Prime a legend`s shown, Lancia Delta Integrale carving stone, Turbo charged power, all wheel drive like blazing through the Mountains & blazing through the night..."

@Gebbly thanks dude! That was a bit of fun with Chat GPT and it turned out ok. The XV01 is great and will be on the track later this season.

@simalarion glad you enjoyed it pal. Wait until you hear the Cougar theme song 😁

@simalarion

Feels only fair I give you the whole lyrics

*(Verse 1)*
In the days of rally’s prime, a legend shone,
Lancia Delta Integrale, carving its throne.
Turbocharged power, all-wheel drive might,
Blazing through the mountains, racing through the night.

Through mud and snow, it owned the track,
With lights cutting through, no turning back.
The roar of engines, a thunderous sound,
In the rally of dreams, it astounds.

*(Chorus)*
Oh, Lancia Delta, you're the one,
Blazing trails, under the sun.
With every roar, with every scream,
You're the rally of dreams, the racing machine.

*(Verse 2)*
With every stage, you staked your claim,
Lancia Delta, immortal name.
Bold lines, iconic flair,
A champion’s heart, beyond compare.

In the hall of fame, your legend lives,
In every victory, the strength you give.
A symbol of power, pride so true,
Lancia Delta, we race with you.

*(Chorus)*
Oh, Lancia Delta, you're the one,
Blazing trails, under the sun.
With every roar, with every scream,
You're the rally of dreams, the racing machine.

Time for some more Modern buggy action. It is an all Tamiya cast for this round and a returning champion of the Orchard is back!

Ooh, too bad for the TT02 type S. This is such a great series, I'm always looking forward to the next episode, feeling like a kid again.

@Tamiyastef thanks so much for the comment dude!

I really enjoy putting all this together and every year there are stories to tell. This season I have been some impressed with how the 2WD buggies performed out on the track they have really closed the gap on the 4WD.

I need to come up with a new idea for the rally cars for next year! Vintage 4WD coming next pal 👍🏻

I wanna see that Mid in action B) For the rally cars for next year you could integrate a paved segment in the orchard raceway? A bit like rallycross circuits in 1:1. I'd think the rally cars have an advantage on tarmac over the buggy's?

That would be really interesting. I've only every driven fully off-road vehicles like Hotshot and GF01 as my main running area is my bumpy back garden. What is considered a "rally car"?. I'm curious to see the sorts of terrain different chassis cars can handle as I was worried if I bought one of the M chassis cars I would need to go and find a quiet netball court or something somewhere to run it.

@Tamiyastef the mid is coming dude!! I like you rally cross idea 👍🏻

@Gebbly the XV01 chassis is a rally spec chassis. It struggles out on the OR so a new rally track is clearly needed for 2025 😁

Vintage 4WD Class hits the track! This is where RC lives for me. Tamiya Hotshot, Thunder Dragon and Top Force Evo with a splattering of the Kyosho Optima Mid! RC master class 😁
