Aeroberts Project Thread - Currently a lot of different cars

That's the trouble with PS-6 - I think the can could be about 50% larger before you'd feel confident to leave any in it! Looking forward to seeing your results, looks really good how you'd masked off the bonnet, bed and sills/arches.

Painted the second step with PS-5. Came out pretty good, not perfect but overall I'm happy with the result of painting. Unfortunately after peeling of the protective film the shell shows more flaws. Currently I'm a bit disappointed about that but after two rolls or hard landings they will be forgotten.

Not completely finished as I think it needs more decals. I will do a trip to a hobby shop tomorrow which will be the first time in ages. It's about 100 km one way and therefore it happens really rarely.

Besides other things I will have a look for some additional stickers.

This morning I've added more details to the body and for now I call it done. Add window seals with lining tape and also give the front lights a black frame.

Only one done (to have a before picture)

I really like it! My blue Dual Hunter shell has pretty much had it. I reckon my son will want one of these if I show it to him!

Will it get run any time soon?

Had the first run this afternoon. What a blast. It's fast enough with two Johnson silver cans, Quicrun 0880 and 2S-LiPo. Maybe the dampers are a little bit soft, but on the other side it looks great when the truck is cornering or accelerate. It's jumping very good and do wheelies. It's also daughter approved.👍

Thank you! It's a great looking shell, but mine has some flaws. There is a crease in the rear bumper, some tiny cracks in each corner of the truck and a light bend in the bed, which looks just as a crease in the protective film. So if you have a chance to pick it up personally you should select the best one.

Thank you! She absolutely wanted to drive it by herself. So I put the throttle on 40% and she's doing it very well for being only five years old. Especially with the big transmitter.

Your rig looks so 'monster trucky', really cool.

I was thinking that those tyres make the difference compared with the Dual Hunter but actually the Lunchbox tyres are smaller.

I think it must be the scale of the body versus that of the Dual Hunter that makes the difference.

It's because of the tires. This body will surely have it's part but the tires are bigger than the Tamiya standard ones. They are not Lunchbox tires. I've bought them some years ago from Hobbyking but they are no longer available there. The wheels I use are just the yellow Tamiya truck wheels.

They are still available at eBay or AliExpress.

Here is the link to them on eBay:

Aaah, I must have mis-read a previous post. They are 5mm diameter wider than the Dual Hunter tyres. That extra sidewall makes all the difference.
Thanks for the link, I’ll have to keep an eye on those!

@Aerobert Awesome job on the body and truck!  Looks great.

I should ask my younger teen if he still wants his because he hasn't even talked about it for 5+ years.  He sees me driving my comicals all the time so it's not like he forgot about RC..

As I'm currently in the mood for finishing projects I'm going to the next one which on the shelf partly for month but even for years now. When I was build my Sand Rover some years ago now, I've ordered a second Sand Rover body as I had the idea of building a Baja Race version of that. I still like this idea but for now I'm doing something else with the body. As I have switched the beaten body of my Blitzer Beetle to the shortened DT-02 chassis of the Sand Rover, the Blitzer chassis needs a new shell.

That brings me to the idea to build a Blitzer Rover. As I mentioned before all I'm currently working on are already started projects, so here's the current state of it.

The chassis which was with me on the beach this summer still needs a good clean and maintenance.

IMG20211013200920_compress84.thumb.jpg.01115090e807a16b93cf99fed287eab6.jpg

Before that holidays I've already made invisible body posts for the Sand Rover body.

IMG_20201015_085207_compress64.thumb.jpg.1741d1a1b3ed387b11b6b3e374003bbc.jpg

The screw heads can be adjusted in longitudinal direction to fit perfectly to the magnets...

IMG_20201015_085402_compress73.thumb.jpg.bdc7794575ab486e36b61732d6209de7.jpg

I have also made a magnetic mount for the front end but currently I have no pictures.

Next step was build a cover for the big hole behind the seats. I was aiming for a box with aluminum style but I'm not sure if I will really go with it.

IMG_20201015_090247_compress68.thumb.jpg.e101cb8d64b5f72adbb4f6deb432c2ac.jpg

This is how it looks after painting and stickering (not finished)

Next step was test fit before painting the body.

IMG_20201015_085705_compress34.thumb.jpg.0791feb25a6629ab6d1e02f0b559ca57.jpg

IMG_20201008_232100_compress21.thumb.jpg.26466aff73b2f078b872c640415899ab.jpg

The Wild Willy you can see here will probably not be the driver of this car as it takes another direction when it come to painting.

First of all it was painted with flat black from the underside. After that it got white primer.

IMG20210522143526_compress25.thumb.jpg.d0f5d4bf1c8eb64cfa34ab988f0bfe32.jpg

After that I started my first airbrush paint job which looks a bit weird on first sight.

IMG20210522180054_compress80.thumb.jpg.cc0ea99a3cb33bd09320b2d32708e958.jpg

It was done with fluorescent colours from Vallejo. After that masking.

IMG20210523153536_compress72.thumb.jpg.2e69357c002ceba3682fae150094ea30.jpg

And painting with dark metallic blue.

IMG20210525154843_compress66.thumb.jpg.6f627679cf381fba4056a313cd2abc24.jpg

And then peel off the masking.

IMG20210525212926_compress22.thumb.jpg.685c408761c2591f9a3383af8fac13ba.jpg

It is probably not everyone's taste, but I like it. And for my first airbrush paint it looks absolutely okay.

Next is maintenance of the chassis and clear cote for the body.

I love the way you’ve fitted the body. I’m amazed how well it fits the Blitzer chassis! Any side on pictures?

Thank you! That's the only picture from the side that I have at the moment. You're right, it's almost like it was made for this chassis. The only thing I have done was cutting a little bit from the front shock tower to get the body as low as possible.

During maintenance I found what I already had forgotten: to achieve a low body position it was necessary to mount the dampers behind the shock tower. For this I had to cut a hole into the lower arms and fixed them with an screw shaft which was screwed in the original damper mounting hole. In that way the damper moved 25 mm backwards. Then I made new upper arms as the standard ones didn't fit anymore. So it's not just cutting the shock tower. -_-

I think that's awesome! And I love the fact you didn't cover the whole body with dots - I can imagine it would be very easy to get carried away with them, but you've absolutely nailed it!

I'm not sure if you were saying you thought you didn't have the skill to paint Wild Willy - if you were, I think you are underestimating your skills!

The modification to lower the front end is genius - so simple but brilliant, could almost be from the factory! Really looking forward to seeing more of this! Thanks for sharing it!

Oh, and agree with @Busdriver - how you mounted the body with the adjustable invisible mounts - really impressive!

Thank you all for your kind words. Currently I'm not sure if Wild Willy is the right driver for this car. When I choose him for being the driver the concept was completely different. But I have an idea for painting him which possibly makes it happen.

Mit so much progress during the last week but finished the rebuild of the chassis. Not sure about the yellow springs in the back. I will either go back to the silver ones from the kit or need to find some yellow for the front. Depends on the look with the body.

IMG20211025195417_compress64.thumb.jpg.24f0b2fe629023d904ae8c23c66200a4.jpg

Here you can see the front mount for the Sand Rover body. It is just a aluminium profile which can be bought in almost every hardware store. I have bend it a little bit to meet the shape of the Sand Rover front. It is mounted with the screws of the front bumper.

IMG20211025195437_compress96.thumb.jpg.9b73ecc7ddacf256688d2ef39bfd909e.jpg

I will get a bit of black paint to make it as invisible as possible.
