Well I remember the early days of the site,

when it was only a wrench !

LOL

2 years ago, Chris joined my board (and old Tamiya world).

As a web programmer, he immediately started to think about

a site. I had web space problems with my site in that period

(better say I always have space problem!) so I decided to

move all my manuals scans to the club.

That's was first joining step.

The second one was to move the whole board comunity.

Since that the club grew in thousand other interesting directions.

I would like to give out a BIGid="red"> thank you to the masterminds behind TamiyaClubâ„¢ - Chris & partners!

It's a great place to spend time, a great inspiration and the place to be for anyone interested in old Tamiya R/C cars or Tamiya related issues. I still have much to learn about these little toys - and I do so everyday thanx to this site - and of course thanx to all the contributing members, wich also makes this site alive!

Thanks ya'll -keep up the good work!

Yep - Chris took everything that was great on the old meassage board - and moved it here - along with the awesome manuals from Roby.

and to think - all it took was for chris to one day click on a link in google !! [:D]

lol - don't remind me.

Its easy to forget the club has only really been 'public' since around feb last year, it seems so much longer...

The main reason for developing the club was quite simply because I had to prove to my wife that she was not married to an isolated mad man collecting cars and that infact there were hundreds of other people madder than me around the world [;)]

We bounced the idea around on Robys board around Nov 2001 and got some input (plus some people that said it was impossible[:)]) - tried to find the original thread but i think its been archived. Then as Roby said he ran in to disk space problems and that was the final push needed to start developing a new site. And boy has it grown, the initial manual count donated from Roby was 78, and in the space of a year we have managed to bump that up to over 200 and membership is now just 25 short of 1000.

I appreciate all the kind words and encouragement that people had given over the months, but as I keep pointing out, I only really set up the framework, the members make it what it is today.

There have been a lot of 'key' members that have played a vital role in the early development and running of the site, who deserve mentioning - such as Stulec52, Darryn, Theo, SynchroCNC, ACPRC and of course Roby, plus lots of others that have been contributing since the site began and now a lot of newer members that are really pushing the site forward in terms of content and knowledge, like BHolio, Bibbo, Miramax (and Miramar [;)]), Spice, KevCoffo and Sandmann. Infact I probably should just list all our members here as they have all played thier part.

And finally I would like to accept this Oscar on behalf of... sorry getting a bit carried away now.

One thing that the loads of emails i get makes me laugh is the fact people think I actually know about Tamiyas - lol - I am about as basic/novice collector as you can find. I just happen to know how to set up website [;)] If the club was a university I would be the caretaker!

As long as people keeping using the site and asking for new stuff - i'll keep developing it.

A mutal back slapping all round (apart from those states where it is illegal [;)])

Sorry Roby... [}:)]

but imho when EZBoard started putting all those silly "popups" for advertising, that was really the beginning of the end for "Roby's Old Tamiya" BBS.

TamiyaClub started off first, knocking out about late 2001... and then the forums came a bit later when we abandoned EZBoard approx APR/02.

I went to poke about Roby's old board via the link in the main forums page and was immediatley irrate about the darn popups. Perhaps a small note in the description of the link to the old board saying something like "Thar be popups beyond here" would be nice.

Otherwise I want to thank everyone whom has been of help to me with the humble begininnings of my Tamiya collection. Of course Kudo's to Chris and all for the wonderful 'framework'

quote:Wasn't there another board before Robys that a lot of you 'older' guys used to hang out at?
id="quote">id="quote">

Before mine there was Jim's (RcVoltar) board.

It was great but it was often down.

We were all tired of that and agreed to move to a new board.

So this is the 3rd generation Old Tamiya and vintage RC board !
