Has anybody run a Brat with brushless power? I’m building up my Brat/Ranger homage and was looking for a steel pinion I thought I had. I did and it was attached to a 13.5t blue bottle sensored motor. I have a gear box brace fitted and was going to use a torque tuned motor but wondered if the bluebottle would be over the top?

I’ve got a Sport Tuned in my Brat on 2s and that’s plenty fast enough for me (and a hard bodyshell)

I would say it will fine in a straight line but will spend a bit of time on its roof when attempting corners.

I’d be inclined stick the 13.5 in and run it without the body on first and see how it goes. If it’s got to much top end put the low ratio gear set in and try that.

Maybe you could use the Brat Lexan body for running and keep the nice BF body you’re doing for the shelf, but you will have change the rear body posts over for each.

That’s a plan. Changing the posts only takes a minute but will have to change front post as well as BF been taller front post as well. Might try and drill the lexan body so that it used BF rear mounts(Ampro ones)

I found that when I changed the rear posts over a few times the self tapers stripped the thread in the chassis, so I drilled the hole and now have a longer bolt with a nut on it instead.

I’ve been wizzing around a frog with 3s and brushless.  I used the gear set for a 18 tooth pinion but fitted a 10 tooth pinion in conjunction with a 380 motor mount.  The motor used was a 2845 3930kv so it simply screwed via the brushed 380 mounting holes.  It works really well.  Fast but still controllable.  👍

Run the 13.5. It will be fast but controllable. Slow down before you turn to avoid the inevitable traction roll. I have a Tamiya 10.5 in mine and it’s too much.

I ran my vintage Blackfoot with Sport Tuned.  I did not want to go much beyond that (maybe up to 13.5t).  Not gluing the tires helped because that works like a slipper clutch.

A 13.5 tooth on brushless in a brat? Shes gonna be a quick one for sure... Personally I would start out with a 16t drive it a bit and then if needed keep droppin teeth till you get the desired speed demon feel your wanting

That’s s a 13.5 turn brushless motor not a 13.5 tooth pinion!

Yeah, I'm this close to taking the 10.5 out of mine and inserting a Sport Tuned...  the 10.5 is overkill but man is it fast!
