OK, I am in a quandry here. I recently bought Porsche Carerra 911 (58208) which is an M02L chassis. The body shell is awful and there are few choices for new shells to fit this car since the 911 shell is OOP. I Like the Honda S2000 shell and am seriously thinking of putting this on the car. So my question, for showroom purposes is, How to list the car? Is it the Honda or the Porsche? I am aware that the Honda is an M04L. Even worse now, with the ranks of late number Tamiya models flooded with TL01 chassis how to list a car which the shell is changed on?

Did I make any sense??? [:I]

The M02L and M04L chassis share the same wheelbase (239mm), width (174-ish mm) and their bodyposts are located in the exact same spot. The Tamiya shells that can be shared across both chassis are:

#50774 Porsche 911 Carrera

#50794 Porsche Boxster

#50756 Mercedes SLK

#50836 Honda S2000

#50848 BMW M roadster

But in regards to what you should post it as, I agree that it should be posted as a Carrera since you've got the kit box and manual to serve as it's "birth certificate"

Ya, its still a M02L so it should be listed under its original guise.

Would be a different matter if you had a Honda S2000 M04L and you also had shell & manual for the BMW Roadster given to you too. [|)]

Who ever said I had the kit box and manual??? [:I]

Part of my original query seems to have been lost in the background. While I would still call the Honda a Porsche since it is the M02L not M04L part of my original query was about the abundance of TL01's out there. For example. Say I bought a TL01 of the bay and it had no body? What would I call it? Would it be whatever I put the shell from on it?

Anyway, perhaps my quesry was kinda silly.

Hi Mike,

In answer to your question: Yes, call a TL01 by whatever shell you fit. There are a couple of TL01LA cars out but the majority are identical. ie my Focus and CLK DTM 2000 D2 are both mechanically identical.

I have a selection of TA02 cars, none came with shells etc. I am calling them whatever shell I get hold of. See my showroom for example.

i would go from the chassis Name / Number as thats what the car is you could change the shell but it's still the named car

most if not all Tamiya chassis have a name or/& Model number

correct me if i'm wrong

Hi Shen,

Sound idea, however all cars that share a common chassis are labeled by the number of the first car that had that chassis. All my TA02 cars use the same chassis whether they are TA02 or TA02W. But by virtue of wheels, wishbones and some alternative body mounts they are different.

I cannot comment on the TA02S as I haven't got one. Where you have a car purchased incomplete I feel that you should match up the wheels and bodyset and be allowed to refer to it as that. I have a TA02 that came with no genuine bodyshell and it has the Tamiya FRP hop up chassis. What do I call that one?

I too have a similar problem. In my quest to add every hopup available for my TL01 I have found that I will end up with two complete cars very soon from what was one car. Now one is very similar to the original but the other is very different except that it has the same chassis. How do I add this heavily modified car to my showroom?

Hi Valman,

My FRP chassied TA02 is currently listed under the heading "other tamiya cars"

You could try that one. My CLK TL01 is heavily hopped up but I am keeping it listed as a CLK DTM 2000 Team D2 because that was the original vehicle.[;)]
