hi all

would anyone else like to see a price put on the for sale items, it would make life easier to know up front whats wanted for the said items.

Hi Kev,

I can both agree and disagree with your point![:)]

As a buyer, I never know what to offer as I am not that sure on pricing of parts. I let the seller give me an idea then I decide from there if it is silly money.

As a seller, likewise I am never sure what something is worth unless it is an item I bought seperately and am moving it on because I don't need it or bought it in error (done that a few times [:o)]). If I am selling an item I would rather let someone make an offer as I wouldn't want to put a buyer off by putting down an unrealistic price. If I see a high price when I am buying I usually think "they have got to be joking" then go look elsewhere without making an offer!

But I am now learning to put a realistic price on things from the start.

One rule that should always be considered when offering any item for sale, be it a 1:1 car, a bike or radio control cars is that it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. If you spend £150 doing up a Striker or a Boomerang it doesn't make that car worth £150 because the market value is less than that.

I recently sold my Terra Scorcher for less than it cost me to purchase and restore it. At the end of the day it was only valued at the price I got. If it had been absolutely mint with the genuine paint job I might have got another £40-£50.[;)]

Not being much of a 'haggler' I prefer to see prices on things it just makes the whole process quicker, easier and less prone to 'mis-understandings'

At the end of the say the seller always ends up setting the price anyway, wether its by nameing the price up front or agreeing a deal at the end of a haggling process.

The rule I try and use on myself is setting a price I am happy with, regardless of what the market rate is. If that turns out to be less than what it would have gone for on ebay then fine, because the price i got was what i wanted.

From a sellers point of view there are good points too - ie you don't get loads of people emailing you with "I'll give you £10.00 for that SS shell"

The only exception to this is when I want to trade, in which case I think "make me an offer" is more acceptable. Parts are not the same as cash. eg when I was trading parts a while back I had a bunch of avante parts and in the end someone traded me a whole running Wrangler Jeep for them. It was not the result of lengthy negotiations just he had a jeep he didn't want and I had these avante bits I didn't want so we both ended up very happy. I would never of dared asked for a jeep in exchange for the parts in any ad i would have placed - thinking it was unrealistic.

At the end of the day, people can do what they like, but from a personal point of view I know I am much more likely to respond to ads with prices.

Untill I find full time work I am buying/selling stuff online. Some of the venues I sell in *require* you to post prices. While to some folks whom do not have a grasp on what they want for an item may be put off by this I love it as both a seller and a buyer. Like Chris I really hate the haggleing. Post your price. I always post a price on every item I sell. And also as Chris has pointed out several times in several threads the seller does indeed set the price after all is said and done.

I would like to see it be required that pricing be posted for items for sale in the traderoom and for sale forums.

Stu, to be honest I thought your price was not bad. I would have loved to buy it from you but, alas, I am broke these days. One of these days I will get a Jugg 2.

And yes that is exactly the kind of post I like. Reasonable price, no guesswork. I responded to another TC member regarding an offering in the trade room that had 'make an offer' on it. Turns out the seller wanted an INSANE price. I hate playing that game.

Hear hear!

If one knows roughly how much one is happy to accept for an item, why not post it with "$x.xx ONO" and then let the haggling begin?

Speaking personally, usually when I see listings with "Make An Offer" I often can't be bothered... not with the inenvitable routine of educating the seller on 'reality' vs his thoughts on Cost+Restore+Labour+PerceviedRarityPremium... [xx(]

I would also like to see the country of origin for any forsale items.

I prefer to see the prices on other people's forsale ads, but since I don't ever post what I'm willing to pay on a Wanted, I guess it's not fair to expect the sellers to post prices either..
