Whenever I look at the forums, how does it know what I've read?

I thought it was one of these mysterious cookies (they're everywhere y'know[xx(]), but I was looking at home last nite, and my home PC knows as well, so it can't be a cookie (unless my machines are communicating behind my back - which would explain some of the spam I get)

Its just a date thing. Everytime you visit it stored in the database so next time you come and login it just highlights those items that have been posted since your last visit.

The purple folders are the topics responded to since the last time you logged on. The yellow ones remained the same since the last log-on... [;)]

So how long to you have to be logged off for the system to refresh the list of forums you have read and ones you have'nt?

I was wondering this too - every now and then, I get unread folders for everything, even the ones I have read that day (that haven't changed)

You mean topics or folers? For me only updated topics are shown as active, never had a problem...

Normally if you see all purple folders it is because you are not actually logged into the forum. As the system can't recognise who you are all it assumes you haven't read anything.

I can't get it to do it now!

Yesterday it happened twice (hence post) but today....

I'm always logged on, so it isn't that.

I'm not mental! (unbalanced maybe)

not long enough[V] i've started using the active topics link now for over the past few weeks and i log in to read the posts thats ok but if my computer crash's or my browser closes when i come back it says no active topics[V]

oh and the purple folders turn yellow so can't do it that way [V]

i guess i'll just have to check the dates[V]

it would be a lot easier if there was some thing to indicate what posts your subscribed to but (chris) you've already said thats not going to happen
