I have reached a point where I’m not sure where to go in RC terms. I think I want a scorcher but I think I’d be better off fitting a scorcher body to an ORV chassis? Probably handle better than the original, a bit like the F150 I’ve just done along with the Brats. I fancy a CC02 but I’m not sure why. My CC01 does everything I want and if I get bored I have the Dynamog/Hippy bus. I love the M chassis cars but don’t really have anywhere good to run them. So where does that leave me? So for me at least I have to go off piste. So Avante or super Avante are the only 2 “buggies” I like. I do not race and am fairly gentle on transmissions. I can afford a stock Avante and for me I don’t think I would need any great hopups. The Super Avante is quite a bit cheaper and I have a 13.5t brushless motor sitting in a drawer waiting for a home. I like both bodies though I think Gunmetal would be my colour choice. ( metallic 🍊❤️) possibly. If I go for the Super I think I would add front and rear driveshafts and fit a dedicated lipo to save having to strip the steering. All in all it would probably cost the same to do either. Having said that the Super on Preorder from Fusion with 10% subscriber discount is very tempting!!! Fellow addicts I need help. I should say I love the building so a challenge would be good!! The Brat was a fun build but I need something a little more challenging 😥

The Scorcher handles very badly on anything except beach sand, and even then it's not FANTASTIC. Give it any sort of grippy surface and it'll spend more time on its roof, which is very bad news for those who have spent time on the body to make it look just right.

As for Avante vs. Super Avante, I'd say if you intend to use it at all (i.e. not a shelf queen), then the Super Avante is your best bet. It's apparently quite rugged and promises pretty decent handling.

That being said, while I have tried the Sand Scorcher, I don't have either of the Avantes, so consider my advice couch-based in that area.

In my opinion which ever you get your not going to be disappointed (super avante hopefully all of us won't be disappointed) what you have to remember is the sand scorcher is a design from the 1970's and tamiya designed in for driving pleasure and to look good! racing didn't really come into it! Just look at the original promotional videos but you can make it handle better than it does from stock by using the ball diff and coil over shocks and different chassis etc etc? personally I just love it completely stock warts and all not good at the handling department but thats what makes it fun in my eyes👍

With the avante who knows what tamiya were thinking? Beautiful looking piece of engineering even by today's standards but the Achilles heel for the avante back in the day was the design was brilliant but the materials it was made out of wasn't as advanced as the actual buggy so it was brittle and heavy  but again if you are not going to race it within an inch of its life the re-release avante should be totally fine (if you can get a hold of one) super avante we will all have to see how that turns out?

My gut is telling me Super Avante. I like the idea of a modern chassis and I have to say I love the look of it I’m thinking P51 Mustang with nose art?

Different strokes for different folks? SS and Avante are stone cold icons, for a variety of reasons. Who knows how the SA will pan out? Just being a casual thread reader and looking at the community thoughts on necessary changes / hop ups…not so much on the Avante, a ball diff on the SS, but the thread on the SA seems to be about what you would leave as stock!

So based on this line from your OP:

I do not race and am fairly gentle on transmissions. I can afforda stock Avante and for me I don’t think I would need any great hopups.

That might be your answer BD 👍

Looks like it’s going to super nuts!!! Just pre ordered TD4 with front/rear shafts, slipper clutch, diff tightening screw( only ordered one?) and aluminium servo mout.

with Fusion 10% discount the whole lot came to £386.99😊. Now have a little bit of time to clear all little jobs and I think the Modelling space could do with a deep clean. Will also be selling a couple of things to create space
