Lunchbox general discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i was in search of an geral discussion Thread for the Tamiya Lunchbox.
I`ve  found that "ultimate LB Guide Thread" but it was old and the Links are not up to date.
So i start a new One.

Here is the Link to the Suspension Discussion:

I have a few Questions:

Does it make sense to use Foaminserts so the wheels get a little bit heavier to give some more Stability?? (Maybe just in the Back)

Are there Lightbucket Inserts to install a full lightset with indicators etc.?

Where can i get a cheap simple LED Kit (2x white 2x Red) for the Truck?

Does anyonde have made an LB Interior before?

What are the Main Things to do with a Lunchbox for the most fun result in your opinion?
(the Lunchbox is one of the most fun Cars that i have owned, i`ve runned it with CVA Shocks, Ballberings and a Sport tuned Motor)

I’ll help you out here to get thread up and running 👍

Tyre foams help to reduced the bounciness.

Ampro do a full on lense/light kit, Shapeways is a good place to look.

eBay for a cheap 4 led light kit, 9V or plug into your R/X preferably.

I’ve not seen an interior before but often cartoon characters and similar.

You got it, bearings, Sport tuned and oil shocks and ideally the gearbox brace.

Anything beyond that is just personal choice and because you can and want to in imo 😉

Now i remembered what question i wanted to ask:

What color should the dampers are?

I wanted to paint them in chrome, but now i installed plain black ones....

Sadly i didn't onstalled any spacer in the front. So the dampers are a little bit to long...

So yesterday evening and today in the Morning i did sonething:

.) Filled Oilshocks (sadly the Pistons are that fixed Metal Pistons and not the Plastic ones wirh the Holes, i think they are a bit to slow. Maybe i need thinner Oil....)

.) Installed Ballbearings

.) Installed the Shocks

.) Painted the indicators, Doorhandles, windowrubbers, etc. with my daughters acrylic Markers. (They are very runny and do not cover the Plastic very good....)

.) Installed a black Sport Tuned Motor

.) Installed a 3D printed Brace

.) Managed the Cables

.) Made a Shocktower reinforcementrod

I'm thinking about putting a PEZ Driverfigure in or maybe 2 or maybe none....

Also i maybe put on some Tiredecals, now i have a good source of Stickers from Slovakia.

One thing i want to do is to put LEDs in, the previous Owner drilled Holed in the Back....

Sadly the previour Sowner did not put on the Stickers very carefully, neither did he used a Primer before Painting....

Finished Work:

So, i started a Interior.

I only have Zipties and Cardboard.

I also have an Entry for the Helloween Competition. Sadly all of that doesn't look very detailed or good and i do not own a Camera that can shoot decent Photos.

What is the best Way to improve the Steering of the Lunchbox besides the Double Wishbone Suspension?

The lunchbox is not very Much of a turner, if i steer only one of the Wheel does the steering.

I angled the Weels "toe in" to get more Steering from the other Weel..

Here on Tamiyaclub is another Mod, but there is no Picture anymore....

You could centre the servo to make the steering rods about the same length and also shorten the stroke of the front dampers by adding a spacer on top of the chassis tub plate where the damper rod passes through , this will take out some of the goofy camber . As you said the double wishbone is a better answer as the steering on the LB was never going to be great as stock , but that is part of the fun of a stock LB

I like Dracula! Cool work and I love the zip the seatbelt.

However I feel he should be Grave digger or Midnight Pumpkin....unless he's just eaten Van(essa) Helsing!

Does anyone know what wheel would fit the Lunchbox wheeliebar?

We are in Lockdown (i think), so i can`t get to the hobbyshop to choose any "Plane wheel".

I hate the scratchingnoise of the original plasticwheel...
