Your RC build space

@Kol__ Thanks, but honestly my RC space is too cluttered.  I need to space things out better..

Huh? Yesterday I saw pictures of your actual workbench and garage but now they are gone?

Yeah, sorry.  It’s the same shop, just updated pictures of the space to give total view. Although that is only half of the actual RC space.. I post pictures often about what I did every day in the other thread which shows the closeup of the work space so I figured I post something different here.

As for the garage, that picture was not a good representation of my workshop so took it out.

Update: So I was in my garage cleaning up my car this morning after a nice autumn drive so this is my other work space where I do the M38 restoration cleaning and most of the dirtier RC work as it has better cleaning supplies and heavier equipment.

My car lounge is 900+ sq ft and can do all car maintenance, detailing,  clear bra/vinyl installation, paintless dent removal, most all bolt on mods.  What I don't do here is metal fabrication or anything that requires a crane.  I'm too old and honestly too much back pain.. gearhead I am, but I am a hashiriya.  My Roomba vacs the floor every week.

Looks great mate, how awesome it would be to have a whole basement. Liking the Decepticons badge on the bench.

Question: when the the truck is cleared off, is the above where you dismember your victims?;) (sorry I think it's just the moody lighting!)

I use the other bench, more outlets for the bone saws over there. :)

I have an 8x10' shed/workshop out in the garden, which has been used to work on and store motorcycles and even a mini gym in the past.

gCF3Yt0.jpeg

I ran power and lighting out there when it went up, but it's not insulated and gets below freezing in there at times during the UK winter months and pretty hot in high summer. I have a couple of greenhouse tube heaters to take the edge off the frost, but they're not the most effective tbh. When I'm out there in the winter I use a decent oil heater, which I have on WiFi so can turn it on remotely a half hour before I got our there and it makes things very comfortable. However, what's the consensus on this being a suitable place to store RC cars and kit? I would think that the varying temps throughout the seasons (down to maybe -3 degrees C in coldest winter period and maybe 35 degrees C in peak summer) will have a detrimental effect on the plastics? Cheers

I'd recommend you store your RCs in a cigar humidor for optimum results. If by the off-chance that you don't have one, or it's not big enough, at least keep the kits indoors when it gets too cold. I don't think 35C heat will affect the plastics much if at all. That's like our springtime over here lol. As long as they're not being exposed to UV rays from direct sunlight that is.

Personally I keep all my kits behind closed cupboards in the guest room, which is air-conditioned year-round. Not great as a display, but probably the best climate for preservation. Unless you have mouldy cupboards.

Does that answer your question? I jumped around so much I lost track

This serves double duty as home office and RC build space:

And just down the hall in another bedroom is the local hobby shop:  :)

I second the climate controlled room for your RC.  Polycarbonate deteriorates quickly in harsh environments not to forget all the plastics and rubber..

My RC room has washi shades to block UV, only use LED's in the overhead can lights, humidity always kept around 35-55% and obviously HVAC controlled.  My 'time capsule' is my wine cellar.. it is always pitch dark and cool all year long.

I share the floor with my wife who has a manga library.. she is very sensitive to these conditions as well, so it works out perfectly for us.

It is OK for most models and stuff, might even be good for lipos as some people keep them in the fridge. I have the same setup minus the heater. BUT if you have waterbase acrylic paints, keep them from freezing. I have a WiFi thermometer that will alert me if it falls below 4C to warn me to take the paint in.

Here’s mine. Use it for static modelling as well as RC as well as a just mending stuff kind of room. It’s about 8’x6’ . I could do with more but I realised how lucky I am to have a dedicated room just for me.

Would have brought more, but they are not cheap and have other interests such as motorcycles.  So have to choose were to spend the shekels.

Total of 14 boats but don't count 3 of them as they are plastic.

Things were getting awkward on small 2’ by 4’ table as the collection grew and constantly got moved around the house. So a trip to the Home Improvement place was in order for a 9’ by 3’ strip beech work top, the start…

Shortly after when it was fresh and tidy…

It’s work in progress (space and projects) as I’d like to put up matching strip beech shelving. But at least my territory is well and truly marked now…

My workshop is an 18' x 12' section of an unfinished basement.  Sorry, but Tamiya toys are just a small part of my hobby.
