According to my joker teen son, my pretend RC shop was hit hard by financial difficulties, was late on rent for the tenant space, and was recently “evicted” forcing me to downsize to a smaller room..

Next stop according to him is a ‘going out of business liquidation sale’..  (dang kids)

So this is my new pretend RC shop..

It is a much smaller space than before at 175sq ft from 460sq ft.. this use to be my old music room.

My wife is using my old RC space to run her work servers as they were getting a big heavy for our first floor structurally.  My music room will move to her old den which is over 290 sq ft, a very welcome space for my large music gear.  I play keyboards and percussion for fun.

I will also get a 249sq ft room next to my new RC shop to place a tiny course for my Willy and Billy vehicles and crawlers once my son moves to college in 1.5 yrs..

The kid will get a small section of the finished basement as his room for those times he visits us during college.. so I told him to make sure he gets a job and his own place after college so that he doesn’t have to tell his friends he lives in 'mom’s basement'.  lol.

Why so many Willies?!?!?!?!?

This thing that I inherited from my grandma is packed with rc stuff:

Desk with PC for work is situated on the other side of the room.

@tossedmanWhat a lovely picture as your first on the forum. I have to ask... what wheels and tyres are they?

Hi GeeWings. Thanks! Those are Boom Racing 1.9” narrow steel rims and narrow tires. It’s a Sand Scorcher body mounted on an MST CFX crawler chassis with the motor mounted backwards in the rear.

So my space is now mildly more organised, but that's only because it had to become that way to try and contain the spread of multiple projects! Bought some containers to house each of the builds and general spare parts etc.

Builds have spread to the top of the wardrobes:rolleyes:, whilst I look for a suitable display cabinet to fit into a 56cm wide gap (max)...

I currently don’t have a dedicated wrk space. I’m about to start a housing search for the next phase of my life and a useable hobby space / workbench is a major WANT for my next home.

Sounds great.  GL finding that nice home with  your hobby room.  Between my wife and I, we physically looked at over 40 houses before we decided on our current house.. which ended up to be the first house my wife and I looked at .  :D

Good luck on the search. I use my office as my workspace but it’s a pain as I pack everything away often to save mess. We are doing major renovations soon so will either create a dedicated craft/making room or I will create a proper RC space in my office. For now I just keep juggling. One good thing though is that one of my garden sheds has an enclosed section added on which is great for spray painting.

At least you were reassured by the 39 other houses that house number 1 was the one for you guys;)

For my wife and I it was the other way around. We looked at about 30 and it was the last one we viewed that we bought.

Yeah to echo @Willy iine's comments, good luck buddy and of course just make sure 'RC build space' is at the top of your list of requirements!

If it makes you feel any better we have moved continent 3 times and lived in 11 houses in the last 10 years 😂 with two kids under 10. When we purchased our current house two years ago my wife and I both said we are never moving again. Recently we’ve both been looking at some listings 😥😆

Nice!   It makes it all worthwhile at the end.  :D

I was able to expand my Work from Home/hobby spot a bit over Christmas break. Rearranged things in the craft/storage room for more desk/tabletop space. This room is attached to the garage, which is attached to the house, so it only gets a little heat.  It splits the temperature between the house & outside.  So right now with freezing temperatures outside, it is roughly 50F/10C in there.  Not quite warm enough to really sit at a desk.  I'll have to work on that.IMG_1211_Crop_Small.jpg.a5d10d32d459bafd0b63fde0dc345339.jpg

try an oil filled electric radiator. Works wonders in my garage over winter here. Will keep garage between 60-70 degrees.

Looks great mate, lots of space!!

+1 on the oil heater. I have this one in black in my 8x10 shed. I have a WiFi extender plug out there plugged into the mains and control the heater through that. It usually takes about a half hour to bring the space up to temp for comfortable use. Even in 0 degrees or 1 or 2 below freezing it will bring it up to a good temp. At 2.5kw it's probably not the cheapest thing to run and I always bang it up to max heat and temp, but it certainly does the job and it's a luxury to be able to turn it on from anywhere to get it heated up ahead of using the space:)

Operation Clear Bench successfully completed today thanks to the freebie drawer unit that now houses all my soldering gear/connectors, various nut & bolts/bits and pieces containers, all the PS cans/masking tape, infrequently used tools/ lubes/ glues + that Tupperware with an assortment of uncategorisable  stuff in that you can’t throw out or put where you never find it again otherwise. Feels good to get things in order. Just few bits out to finish off the Escort.

For everyone thinking their workspace is a bit cluthered, take a look at my workbench and storage in our basement. Yes, compensating for a sitting daytime job I do all my RC work standing at my workbench. :)
