Nikko85 3454 Posted October 18, 2021 I am interesting in getting some Brat tires for my upcoming build. Does anyone know any hex wheels that can fit a Brat tyre please? Ideally I'd want to use the hex mounts as provided, without having to purchase a conversion plate and then longer axles as that get's pricy. Something with enough offset (the type that makes the car wider) too, otherwise the wheels won't clear the body and springs. The chassis will be a MF01x. My other option is a Sand Scorcher, which @OoALEJOoO has tried on a M chassis wheel - which works although may need glue! Also, as a mild rant, I am the only one who finds tires really badwording confusing? Offset (measure from where? what is + and -) size (2.2, mixed imperial and metric, who does that?) and very little information about the actual outer diameter and width many models have makes it hard to mix and match. I'm trying to find 80 mm + wheels for my new build, and it's really tough, unless it seems you've got loads of spares to just put together or know the secret code. Even Tamiya rarely state the sizes of each tire on their website, unless I'm missing somehting?
SupraChrgd82 1425 Posted October 18, 2021 If I am not mistaken, Brat tires are 1.5 inch. 1.55 inch scale crawler wheels will fit the 12mm wheel hex and the Brat tire.

This is dependent on the wheel manufacturer. I have a set of 1.55 RC4WD wheels and the Frog rear tires don’t fit very well. In fact you can pull them right off even after tightening the screws… I’m currently debating whether or not to get RC4WD dirt grabbers for my project. They have the same 3” OD of the brat tire…
Frog Jumper 3661 Posted October 18, 2021 And Brat tires are 1.7”…

No, this makes it difficult to find the right tire for a project. Tire outer & inner diameter and recommended width, wheel outer diameter for ones smaller than 2.2, seem stupidly hard to find sometimes.
GeeWings 2830 Posted October 19, 2021 Agreed. I spent a long time looking for alternate wheels and tyres for my Gf-01 LandCruiser yesterday. I could not easily find both tyres and wheel colour in stock to match at the size I wanted. I actually nearly purchased a used car just so I could take its wheels! In fact I still might I guess this all becomes a bit easier when you can walk in to a store though I'm not sure how much stock they have lying around. I only got back in to this hobby a few weeks ago and have been in lockdown the whole time!
OoALEJOoO 3127 Posted October 19, 2021 Another option to fit into M-sized wheels (1.55"?) might be to use the The Hornet's rear tires, which are the same size as the Sand Scorcher's but in spiky flavour instead of paddle. A work-around for the glue could be using 1.55" beadlock wheels, although this would rise cost. You can find 4x sets in eBay for about $16 (plastic) or $27 (metal). I don't have any and am assuming their 1.55" is about the same as the M-sized wheels.
markbt73 5316 Posted October 19, 2021 Brat tires will stretch onto 1.9 touring car wheels with enough force. But the sidewalls bulge out funny.
rich_f 233 Posted October 19, 2021 (edited) Have a look at this other topic (link below) where I've posted a picture of my TA01 with brat tyres on tiger stripe escort wheels. They do spin a bit so might need gluing but there's no sidewall stretching like these would be on normal touring wheels, and m-chassis wheels would be far too small. Edit: the thumbnail below isn't the photo I'm referring to, at least when viewed on my phone. See the picture in the thread itself Edited October 19, 2021 by rich_f To clarify a misleading thumbnail
Mokei Kagaku 2706 Posted October 19, 2021 Tamiya re-released the Brat tires with unique 12mm hex wheels for the The RC Boy's series with item number 53330. They were also included with the RC Boy's Wild Ceptor. Admittedly discontinued a long time ago, but shouldn't be too hard to source. Important notice: The set comes with two front wheels and two rear wheels, which have different offsets!

Not the tiger stripe one - they came with a special smaller diameter wheel and taller-sidewall to look more scale. Later escorts came with the now standard-sized touring wheel. The tiger stripe escort wheels are in between m-chassis and touring size.

Exactly, but the real reason the Tiger Stripe Escort came with this combinaiton of wheels and tires wasn't the more scale look. It was a stopgap as the Rally Block tires didn't yet exist. So Tamiya "recycled" the tires from the # 43004 "QD Paddle Spike Tires Front (with Wheels)", originally released for the 1/14 QD buggies.
Nikko85 3454 Posted October 19, 2021 Many thanks I assume the Escort Tiger Stripe wheels are now something of a rarity? I have to say they look perfect for what I want. I've also found the 56519 tires seem to work well, which when spray painted white would look ok. At 1/14 scale they'd match the truck I'll be making at least. nowinaminute 2815 Posted October 22, 2021 I'd be interested too because I want to mount grasshopper wheels onto a DT-02 as I was going to try making a DT02 with GH body and wheels. I'm guessing of I try to fit the grasshopper wheel adapters straight onto the DT02 rear axles it won't work?

You’ll have to use the pin to 5star adapter from the GH but then your axle might be too short.

Yeah that's the part I was thinking about. When you look at the width of the hex adapter for the frog etc, you can tell it's not going to work the other way round without work.
