Would it be possible to have an option on the cars page to list them by category? Would it be too difficult? Such as SRB, 3-speed, TA-02, TL-01, MT, etc. It would be alot easier for the less knowledgeable (like me) to look at all the versions of a particular chassis without wading through hundreds of Tamiya models to check all the pics.

More generally it would be nice to sort the car the way we want. I personally groups mine by themes (Ferraris, Buggies, Avante types, 2wd vw style, etc...)

Mabe that a field like position in showroom would do.

If someone can come up with a system which covers all the cars equally fairly - I'd certainly look into it.

Its not as easy as it might at first seem though.[;)]

Sorry guys, when I asking a really dumb question. But what the heck is SRB? I saw this abbreviation from time to time, but I don't have any clue what it means. It must be something about vintage Tamiya buggies, but what precisely?

Thanx!

can't you just tell the computer to do it? [xx(]

Well, if you grouped them by chassis & also by body, wouldn't that pretty much cover everything? Like if you wanted to see all cars with the Frog chassis or all the Hondas or whatever. I guess you could do it by color too, LOL.

It seemed so simple when I first thought about it. Aaargh!

I could see where sorting by a chassis would be helpful in regards to newer cars which share the same chassis but Chris is right, it's a lot of programming work. The car listings are not like sorting an Excel spreadsheet. I like the way it is already. If you want to see all the members frogs you have that option. What I think what would more useful would be a FAQ tab on every car listing. That way all the answers to the questions that have been asked about a particular car can be compiled there. In the FAQ it would state that the Sand Scorcher shares a similar chassis to the Rough Rider and Ranger XLT. If you decide to look at the Rough Rider and Ranger XLT then that's your choice.

The good news and bad news about computers.

The good new is, they will do exactly what you tell them to do.

The bad new is, they will do exactly what you tell them to do [:P] Lol

This thread is going the way I thought it might,[;)] lots of suggestions but nobody actually posting a listing categorizing all 300+ cars. (just a few suggesting of one or two cateogries) If someone wants to spend the time to provide a full list of all cars and thier new 'category/classification' I'll look at incorporating it.

Suggesting a couple of cateogories on thier own is not enough.

Hi Theo

Thanks for the starting point - what I need now is someone to classify all 300+ cars into these categories for me. Thats the thing I don't have time/knowledge to do.

I also think we have to do everything possible to stop overlaps - this is what makes the coding harder. (ie if a car needs to be in more than one category)

Theo,

I think we had better but the FAV in the same catagory as the Wild One. For the rest, a good list. But I think we should also make sure we are not making the catagories TOO small (like: 959 / Celica ONLY). Though I think in the case of the 959/celica, 'there is nothing like it'. Could the frog family and BF family not be in the same catagory?

I also don't fully agree with a 'military' catagory. the cars should be sorted in catagories according to chassis resemblance, not to the simple fact that it has military colors on the box art... [;)]

Now for a volunteer who whats to take a lot of time sorting them.. [;)] If it's sure it'll be put into use, I might want to contribute to the club in this way! [^] I have a few plans, plese let me know if it will be REALLY usefull... [8D]

Doesn't the main page for each car already have a chassis type field filled in? Can't you just create a search based on that data field? I personally think that the classis classification is only useful for the more recent cars which actually have a chassis name. I don't think there is any need to classify the SRBs, Falcons, supershots etc. Each of those were unique cars, even when they shared a chassis.
