Plastic Scale Model Aircraft?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here build models like this here?

Is there another Tamiya forum somewhere that caters to this type of model?

I still can't find the other Tamiya forum that I used to visit.

I do, as well as AFV, ships, etc... Some not quite scale, and these are not quite Tamiya but I do build some of their aircrafts though. I mainly build Tamiya tanks and ships though as their aircraft are usually not that great.

Also, check this out.

Oh yes. In fact that’s my Escort 😀 haven’t done much recently but with Winter approaching I tend to do more static stuff. Have several 1/24 cars, two 1/12 cars and some tanks and planes!!! In answer to your initial question I don’t know of any Tamiya specific static kit forums but more general sites/forums are Britmodeller, IPMS and Finescale may be good starting points. Some of the builds on these forums are mind boggling, the detail and scratch building especially.

I do not go and be a member and post on those forums as they are flame war a plenty there. "wrong shade of brown" anyone? Plus their level of skill is just too high over the for me. I mainly build static OOB with no AM parts or added details at all. If it is a rubbish kit, it stays a rubbish kit when I am done and I just move on to something else.

Good source of information though.

I agree they can be a little bit overpowering. But as you say good reference point.

I know of most, if not all, of those forums that deal with " static " scale models. I'm a member of most of them. I was just wondering if there was still a Tamiya forum, like I was in up to about 4 years ago. After my hard drive resurrection and recovery of lost info, I couldn't find that particular forum again.

If you are a member of most of them, you may also know that Tamiya is not highly regarded among static model makers, too much of a "shake and bake" to them. Mind you, not that Tamiya quality is bad, just to simple for serious model makers. They, seem to, have an unnatural love for filling and sanding and spending an unbelievable amount of time to count rivets and measure panel lines and complain about the wheel well lacking details.

It is the "shake and bake" that I love Tamiya, I go for volume production rather than unnecessary tiny details. To me Tamiya "got it right" without going into unnecessary details.
