Any New Monster Truck From Tamiya?

Recommended Posts

Is it me or it has been a long time since Tamiya released an R/C monster truck. I mean aside from the Re-Re Chrome Clod, there are no new MT lately. I can't consider the CR-01 as a real MT. It is much more of a scale - 2.2 crawler. Traxxas released their Summit and HPI their brushless savage flux. How about Tamiya? I really like building Tamiya kits and I really hope they have something under developement.

Maybe a TXT-2? or even better...a new kind of 4wd MT.

Who is waiting like me?

I have had to buy from other manufactures due to the lack of stuff from tamiya, so traxxas, losi and hpi have had my cash recently, being the slash, highroller and wheely king. i would love to see a new scale chassis to replace the cc01, something inbetween that and high lift would be good, plus im into bashing about so a monster/race truck would be good, and as a kit too.

I totally agree. I'm getting tired of the latest rehash of the Wild Dagger chassis. Where's the TXT-2? Wheres a good fun (and reasonably quick) 2wd truck like the King Blackfoot? Something along the lines of the Stampede maybe? The Blackfoot Xtreme ain't it. How about a Monster Beetle re-re? The Lunch Box re-re certainly injected a little fun back into Tamiya's monster truck ranks. Where's a race truck or at least something along the line of the King Cab or Stadium Blitzer? I miss the old MT days. Still, Tamiya deserves high praise for the new 3-speeds and CR-01s.

I'd actually love to see them take on the desert-truck idea. I mean, people praise the Slash for its "scale looks," but Traxxas ain't no Tamiya, and we all know it. Wouldn't a 2WD desert truck, with a solid rear axle and plastic tube frame, hit the spot? Especially if they included 5 actual wheels and tires?

Oh, and re-re the Blackfoot, or Monster Beetle, or Mud Blaster. I'm not picky about the shell, but I'm jonesing for that chassis.

I agree, the TXT-2 is long overdue.

Considering the popularity of r/c "monster jam" styke events in the US, you'd think that they'd be on top of it.

Although, while they are still selling Clods, why change? (from a management and marketing prospective).

But Tamiya have produced a fair amount of trucks recently though?

The CR01 was fresh thinking, with 2 body options plus the forthcoming Wrangler.

They've reworked the Clod with a ESC at long last.

Hilift and Tundra have been in the last year.

Re-Re Brat.

And you can still buy Lunchbox, SuperClod, Dual Hunter etc new.

I agree it would be lovely to see a brand new design Monster truck, but don't think we will for some time...

When they had the Terra Crusher released, I got the first batch from Tower Hobbies. I like that truck, but has so many problems. I always thought Tamiya will release an electric version of it.

I guess scale RCs are more of a seller than MTs for Tamiya.

To help out markbt73, tamiya does have a desert truck with a scale look, they had three over the years. They had the toyota race truck, the s-10, and they now have the ford f-150 4wd race truck. The truck has shaft driven 4wd, independent suspension, ball diff in the rear, and a lexan body. I own the tamiya ford 4wd race truck and the slash. The tamiya handles a lot better than the slash but the slash is faster.

Oh, I'm aware of those trucks. The TA-01 chassis was one of my favorites for a long time. But I'm talking about a scale chassis (real pickup trucks don't have independent suspension in the back, and most desert racers aren't 4WD) and an actual tube-frame rollcage, not just molded-in lines on the shell.

IMHO I would also like to see a new monster. Why don't they do something awesome with a Ford or Chevy shell? That HPI wheely king is pretty sorted chassis and suspension wise. What I saw of the Axial scorp is awesome. All the huff and puff about the Hi-lift I feel is fine but jeez that bouncy bouncy rock hard suspension setup is not all it should be. How I would enjoy a Jugg or Clod sized monster with a really sorted out chassis with solid axles, rail chassis and a coil and shock setup that works. The Wheely king is an almost great crawler in standard setup why can't we get a Tamiya like that? Also agree on the Slash type of stadium truck. The Slash is a far better attempt at a stadium truck than the Stadium Raider, Stadium Blitser and the other Tamiya attempts. Yes they are fun in their own way but the Slash certainly nailed it on the head with everything except maybe that hideous shell.

Come one Tamiya hear the voice of the people!!!!! :)

So if big t does release an mt - would it really compete with the likes of traxxas and hpi? Would it be as big/brutal or solid as its rivals? would people buy it because of its revolutionary design and competence - or would it sell because most die-hard tamiya fans would want one even if it was rubbish?

Sadly I feel the latter would be the case - with my recent traxxas truck and my new hpi on order - I am seeing tamiya in a whole new light....

And yes I also have to agree with this statement. I think the "New" chrome Clod would have been better of left as a maybe..... The chassis is years old and even though I love a Clod dearly I won't buy a chrome edition. The chrome body just doesn't justify the layout for me. I'd rather spend it on a Wheely King or a Slash.

Seems though the innovations at Tamiya has gone.

I so wish they wanna proove me wrong.......... :)

Oh come now, at least Tamiya makes new vehicles instead of slapping new wheels and bodies on an old chassis like Traxxas or Losi. Quantity is no substitute for quality.

Anyway, they ARE going to release a new truck. Something never before made by Tamiya....a brushless RTR.

Nice looking truck. I think that's a first for Tamiya isn't? A 4WD stadium racer MT. I know these's been a few 2WD ones. Anyone know what chassis it's based on?

I was just in the process of collecting up parts to make a similar truck. #58161 Ford F-150, DF-01 suspension, HPI MT2 wheels and tyres, lots of alloy and the MM 4600Kv.

Wait a minute, that's a dualhunter shell. I remember when that came out everyone said it looked disgusting!! Don't mind it, way too pricey for me though!!

Thats exactly what I was thinking. So much for new MT, it's just a Dual Hunter shell on a TB01.

Having said that it does look very nice. I particularly like the exhaust exit sticker on the side! :)

Good catch Olly. It has a brushless sticker on the side but also an exhaust at the end :) .

I think i'm going to place bets on my Tamiya predictions. I've been saying for ages that Tamiya desperately need to rejoin the stadium truck market with something fast and new and able to keep up with Traxxas and HPI. The Levant looks just like it.

Love or hate the shell, it's much like everything else out there right now - so it's in tune with the times. Can't say fairer than that (and you can always buy an aftermarket shell if you don't like it.)

The TB01 chassis is a very sturdy tub indeed, so it should be able to take the extra torque and bounce of a monster truck. The suspension layout looks good and based on the 1:10 touring pan, it will probably be marginally smaller than its rivals, which IMO is no bad thing - I've been slightly dismayed by the gigantification of RC over the last 8 years. The Traxxas E-Maxx is an awesome truck, but not everyone has the space for it!

My only slight problem with the truck is that it's RTR, and I'd prefer a kit - but I'd be surprised if the Big T doesn't release a kit version once the RTR has proved itself. If it comes out in kit form then it'll be on my want list, although I'm slowing down RC purchases this year (says he with the Fusion Hobbies window open in the background ;) )

I still think that a new TXT is required, although the proper MT market has been a bit blurred with independantly-sprung stadium trucks being jacked up and marketed as monsters. A rigid-axle monster truck will never be as stable or driveable as a stadium truck, so a rigid-axle TXT-2 would be marketed more as a visual feast / crawler / stunt truck - and Tamiya already have that in form of the CR-01. I doubt it'll happen!

Well here is some good news:

I just watched an interview of Mr Shunsaku Tamiya over on tamiyablog from Nuremburg 2009 Toy Fair. Although I'm these quotes are mostly for models we can hope they may be applied to the RC division .

Quotes:

"I've already ordered our staff to develop more new products than last year"

"We're going to be developing more products this year than last. W're going to be very aggressive"

"If we cut back because the economy is bad, it would be a blow to the whole industry"

Now, let's email him to get those last few re-issues out and some new Monster Turcks & Crawlers. Cheers !

I have yet to read that someone from Tamiya do lurk around and check the forum for any possible ideas, suggestions or improvements of their products.

Anyone knows when the brushless Levant supposed to be released?
