I've Been into RC as long as I can remember (I think I was six or seven when I got my first car - a Yonezawa Wave runner). Collecting just sought of crept up on me, as I found ways to keep things that I've owned a long time going. Now that I'm old and cranky, I like to restore. As most Australian kids knew in the 80's, Tamiya was the brand to have if you wanted schoolyard cred. Not to be out done, I pestered, begged borrowed and stole to get a Tamiya Frog (still got it complete with Hop Ups) as they ruled the schoolyard. As time went by, I got my hands on a few more Tamiyas, and never really got rid of any. I've still got runners that I use a lot, but these are mainly courtesy of Tamiya's re releases, with the exception of some older Kyoshos (circa '86-90). And BTW, I've got planes and boats as well.
Now that I've got a career and have discovered Ebay, things have gone bannanas. All my wildest dreams for restoration seem so much closer and more attainable knowing that somewhere around the world, at some time, someone will have what you want for sale, and you can know about it. Ain't the Net Grand.
