Hmm.. well, my interest started in the 80's when I used to visit the local model shop with my dad and drool over all the Tamiya RC cars that were on the shelf. At the time it was all about the Hornet/Wild One/HotShot etc.. I got myself a catalogue and proceeded to drool all over that too!!
My parents couldn't afford to buy me a new kit but instead I got a Sand Scorcher (with Ford Ranger body shell) for Xmas '86 that was previously owned by a guy my dad worked with. Little did I realise at the time, but they'd by chance bought me what was to turn out to be the most collectable Tamiya model to date! ;)
Anyway, I ran the car in the local car parks etc and also managed to get a Super Champ body kit to fit and make it more buggy-ish! I'll have to dig out the pics I've got from 'back in the day'..
My mate got a Falcon in '87 which we built in his attic/play room (finally I got to build one - my fave part) and we ran them for a couple of years..
Of course, times changed and the car was stowed away under the bed for years until I stumbled across this website earlier in the year and my interest was rekindled. Great pictures, info and retro-reminiscing - I had to get one..
And so, 21 years after my first car I was a bought my first kit to build (byt my girlfriend - how cool is that - for Xmas '07). The car is a Blackfoot Xtreme - amazing I didn't choose it but of course it too has the Ford Ranger body shell - what a coincidence!!
Got to plan my build now - do I go straight for hop-ups? do I build it stock? what colour scheme do I go for? I need help. I need TamiyaClub.com!!!
