I got into R/C car racing over 20 years ago after my parents brought me a Hornet (Beatties Deal) as a Christmas present. I soon realised that the Tamiya, although was fun, was not a competitive racer & soon 'upgraded' to a Mardave Meteor - which, with independent suspension handled much better. I've been racing R/C cars pretty much ever since - indeed in my time, have been a sponsored driver & competed at national level in both on-road (touring car) & 2wd Off road. My racing is now much more casual - racing mostly at my local club (Kettering MCC) on Friday nights & at Silverstone RCMCC's venue at Moulton College.
I have become increasingly nostalgic about the older cars (all makes) Especially those I used to race or raced against. My first restoration project was an original Clodbuster that I found down the local council tip & it was that car/truck that led me to this great site. I also still have some of my old race cars including a Mardave Cobra that I modified by fitting a Losi XX gearbox. In the past few years I've built up quite a collection of vintage R/C cars of which most are displayed in my 'Showroom'.
I am also into all sorts of full size cars - in-particular old VWs, my username comes from the fact that I own a 1979 VW Derby (my pride & joy) I'm not from the city of Derby ;-)
