I've been building and driving Tamiya models for about 25 years now. (since 10 years old). My first kit was a Buggy, can't remember the name but I loved it. I only had one battery and it was well and truly used (hammered). I had to use a very cheap but quick battery charger and the battery never let me down. I even started entering competitions and was very competitive for my age and what I had. .. Just a few years ago I bought a TB01 Mitsubishi rally car. After finding out a couple of weeks later that rally tracks was very rare and that touring cars was the big thing, i decided to buy all the touring car hop-ups and enter into competitions at my local clubs. (Don Valley Sheffield & Dronfield RC-Club.) At first I was very slow with the standard motor, but each week I bought faster motors, LRP ESC, KO Propo servo and 2400/3000 Sanyo batteries. Within 3 Months I was in the top 20 top drivers group in south yorkhire. Not long later I entered the Don Valley & Dronfield championship. I was competing against Schumacher & HPI sponsered drivers with there perfect setups and other drivers which was using transmitters which more or less drove the car for you. I was just using my trusty old Acoms 27mhz bog-standard transmitter. Well I got through to the finals and it was strange standing there in the middle of all these top drivers with there two hundred + pound transmitters. I was deliberately being knocked off the track by these drivers now, maybe is was because they could not have an outsider with a hopped-up Tamiya rally car and standard transmitter beating them. BUT I fought back and I came 6th. I was well happy. There was 10 drivers in the final and I could here friends and family shouting at the drivers who finished behind me. My prize was a new Schumacher touring car. I did build the car, but due to the un-sportmanship I recieved from them clubs I decided to give it up. (real shame actually). .. Now I have a Monster Truck (Twin Detonator). I bought it only a few weeks ago. I did originally go to buy the new Blackfoot Extreme, but the shop assistant told me that the Blackfoot extreme was identical to the Twin Detonator but without the front gearbox and motor, plus the T/D was £10 cheaper. Its now fully built and painted and everything is standard at moment. I am looking for hopups but there's not much else you can do to it. I have also been looking for local OFF-ROAD racing clubs but had no joy. I love the truck, it climbs just about anything and it can shift too. .. If anyone out there can give me tips on how to improve the truck or where there's racing clubs around sheffield then please contact me. .. Thats all for now... Bye.
