My first stint in this hobby was 1989-1993. I started out with a Futaba FX-10, which was a fine car but didn't have much potential for growth. I eventually cracked the chassis and bought a Yokomo YZ-10. Big mistake; I wasn't a racer and the car was far too finicky for bashing. It ended up gathering dust after I bought my third car, an Associated RC10L. That was intended for racing at a local club, but as my buddy and I lacked transportation (only 14 at the time) and were both rowing crew on the weekends we never ended up becoming racers. So I set that aside and bought an Astute. Much better for what I was doing at the time. Kept the Astute till I learned how to drive a real car and lost interest in r/c.

I got back into r/c purely by chance. I hadn't given the hobby a thought for twelve years when my wife mentioned, shortly after we moved to Green Bay, that there was an r/c racetrack next to the supermarket she shopped at. Well, I just had to go check it out. Soon I had retreived all my old cars from my parents attic and restored them. My original intent was to race them, but one race with my Astute (and one broken front suspension bulkhead; try finding those on eBay for under $50) convinced me that racing vintage cars on modern tracks (which, at least around here, are designed for gas monster trucks) was not a good idea. So I sold my old models (some regrets) and put the money towards a B4.

That was almost two years ago. I'm still a terrible driver but I love racing, when I get the chance (tough with a family). More often, I'm down in the basement, after the kids go to bed, working on my small but growing stable of Tamiya re-releases and restorations.

Outside the narrow world of r/c, I've been married to Anastasia for six years. We have three children, Cassie, Joey, and Susanna. I'm an attorney in private practice in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
