Back to movies

Last sunday, I took the TA-01 Impreza out for a spin.

I installed a Novak 5,5R GTB motorsystem with the largest gear ratio on the standard spur gear (motorpinion 16t) so it was at least a safe ratio...

I only used gear diffs with some AW-grease, as I don't think a ball diff would handle the power.

Together with rally block tires it is very fast as you can see in the movie.

A few crashes made the body crack a bit but the chassis held up pretty good.

I won't try a smaller gear ratio cuz I think it's fast enough...

The livery of the car is the 'nul car', used in rallys to examine the track before the real cars start.

I added a bicycle LED unit to simulate the flashing lights...lol.

Motor and battery were warm afterwards, not hot so this setup works pretty good!

With a NiMH 4300mAh you have about 10 minutes runtime and a good punch.

It may be my imagination but the 3800mAh NiMH ran a bit slower, the 1200mAh NiCd was defenately the slowest but had the same runtime.

Anyway, enjoy!

I did...;-)

Sorry, this is a Flash movie. - You don't have flash installed.

Mentally quick and great movie. Must say expected old ta-01 to rip apart

Well, it is all ball raced but the plastic gears will give up some day, I suspect...

Haven't had time to clean and examine them.

That is soooo fast and tribute to the chassis on such a rough track it's unbelievable how the suspension are coping.

nice little vid, love the terrain and the tune, what was it? good decision on the gear ratio i think, let the motor do the work, thats what its for.

Yup, I was pleasantly surprised too!

I did use a medium soft set-up for the shocks though...

Tune is made by myself (created with eJay).

Well, thx mate!

I cleaned the gears and decided that I will use the spur gear of the Hummer as the metal gear (on the spur gear) wears the little idle gear quite a bit...

That way, all gears wear equally and I can use ceramic grease on all the gears.

I also noticed some wear on the axle cups, not the diff cups.

All in all, I'm quite satisfied with this test.

Holy crap!!!!! thats a fast TA01!

They do hold up suprisingly well when you bolt big power in. The smaller than buggy size wheels will reduce the load some on the drivetrain over the DF-01 setup I run with the Mamba 5700. All plastic gears and steel pinion is the longest lasting combo. Alloy wears so fast with big power. It's all fun

The 5,5R is a 7600KV motor and I'm very pleased with it's performance.

I also have the 10.500Kv (3,5R) but that one is a bit too big I think...

If you let them rev (large gear ratios) they become really fast.

The 3,5R is more suitable for on-road chassis I guess.

Indeed, it's all fun!

OMG! That is one fast motor and its on loose dirt to. If you let it rip on tarmac I guess it be uncontrollable. Looks fun and great vid!

It also drives very well on tarmac, no problem!

A TA-01/02 has a lot of caster so that's good.

Man, thats quick....

Awesome, never saw a TA01/02 as quick as this. You did some really nice powerslides in the video, power is nothing without control! You controlled it very well

LOL Vinnie! It says more about the car than about my driving skills! Go figure!

Revival of the TA-01/02's?

funny you should mention, i've got a very nice TA 02 project underway, i'm sure many of us have means to make a fine TA based car should they become the cult car of the moment
